I wonder if Devlin blackmailed Shawn by telling him he'd divulge all sorts of horrid details if he ever escaped. Now Shawn is safe and Devlin wants his revenge.

I'm sure Devlin did that as well as threaten him over and over not to leave. It was a combination and constant stress on that child. We may never imagine the horrors that child was put through!
