GOP hits Pelosi's 'hypocrisy' on wage bill
WASH TIMES ^ | 1/12/07 | CHARLES HURT

House Republicans yesterday declared "something fishy" about the major tuna company in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco district being exempted from the minimum-wage increase that Democrats approved this week.

"I am shocked," said Rep. Eric Cantor, Virginia Republican and his party's chief deputy whip, noting that Mrs. Pelosi campaigned heavily on promises of honest government. "Now we find out that she is exempting hometown companies from minimum wage. This is exactly the hypocrisy and double talk that we have come to expect from the Democrats."

Perhaps a GOP Senator or two - could take a cue from this and force a debate in the Senate?

Nah, that'd take ba*ls..

Pelosi has asked the Labor? committee to include Samoa in the bill. Not sure how that works?

In about six months either there won't be any to purchase or you won't be able to afford it.

She caved to the pressure I guess never figuring this would be found out..

She always operated this way, and figured it would be so under the radar no one would notice. As Speaker, she's under more scrutiny now than she was before.

Since the bill has been passed, I think any changes would have to be made in the House-Senate conference committee to iron out any differences in the House and Senate bills, or as a separate bill. The horse is already out of the stable on this one.

Pelosi's hypocrisy notwithstanding, raising the minimum wage for the tuna canneries would likely cause the canneries to close.

So it's okay with the Democrats if American businesses close when slammed with this increase, but not okay if politically-connected businesses in American Samoa close.

80 Republicans said yes. They can't be complaining now. What a group of idiots!!!!!!!! They at least need to go back to school and learn how to read. If she did stick that in the bill then why did they not read it before voting. Man if I blindly agreed to all the crap that is put in front of me, I would be in deep trouble.

Many "Republicans" voted for this flawed legislation. Their complaint about the exemption for American Samoa seems a bit dubious. Why did they not raise this issue when the bill came up for a vote?

Because most Congressturds on both sides of the isle rarely read the actual bill they are voting on. The sponsors of the bill put out a memorandum in support of the bill that summarizes the proposed legislation, what it amends, what it does, why Congress should pass it, and the fiscal implications. The various committees that review the bill also put out a summary memo in support of or in opposition to the bill. Very few people read the actual legislation, however.

I would guess this would cause an increase in unemployment benefits as well.

Is this the ONLY job where you can make a ton of money by not doing what you are supposed to do, and if you don't like what you make, you can simply vote yourself a pay hike?

Every congressman and senator should be required to verbally read aloud every bill up for a vote at least 5 times before any vote comes up.

They should also be given pop quizzes while the C-SPAN cameras are rolling.

For a while the Sea-Lion was content with the occasional retalitory murder, obviously trying to scare the Del Monte brass. However, recent events have caused the Sea-Lion to take more drastic tactics, i.e.taking out a 50 foot yacht in San Fransisco harbour. Enter the Pelosi connection.

I was recently approached by four rather sharply dressed young sealions. They expressed an interest in procurring some high yield explosives and remote detonators.

Of course I explained to them I would not sell them the means of killing and maiming innocent boaters. They assured me they had no such intention and I pressed them to reveal their plan. They confided in me that they would take out Barbara Streisand's sewerage line once and for all.

Call me an old softee but I gave them the materials at cost. Wouldn't you hope someone would do the same thing if your children had been forced to swim in Bab's feces?

Let's get political, folks, if the Republicans knew it was there, knew it would pass anyway, why would they disclose the hypocrisy beforehand? It looks worse for the Dems to have it passed as is. Politics. I'm glad I'm not good at it.

Because the Democrats cut off the debate .. they wouldn't let Republicans talk about it

It's a new House and the dems are in charge

Starting to see some of that "New Direction" the Dems are taking us.

**The Democrats' new promise "A New Direction For America - Vote Democratic" **

** **

**The stock market is at a new all-time high and America's 401 K's are back. A new direction from there means, what?**

**Unemployment is at 25 year lows. A new direction from there means, what?**

**Taxes are at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Federal tax revenues are at all-time highs. A new direction from there means, what? **

**The Federal deficit is down almost 50%, just as predicted over last year. A new direction from there means what? **

**Home valuations are up 200% over the past 3.5 years. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Inflation is in check, hovering at 20 year lows. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Not a single terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11/01. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Osama bin Laden is living under a rock in a dark cave, having not surfaced in years, if he's alive at all, while 95% of Al Queda's top dogs are either dead or in custody, cooperating with US Intel. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Several major terrorist attacks already thwarted by US and British Intel, including the recent planned attack involving 10 Jumbo Jets being exploded in mid-air over major US cities in order to celebrate the anniversary of the 9/11/01 attacks. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Just as President Bush foretold us on a number of occasions, Iraq was to be made "ground zero" for the war on terrorism -- and just as President Bush said they would, terrorist cells from all over the region are arriving from the shadows of their hiding places and flooding into Iraq in order to get their faces blown off by US Marines rather than boarding planes and heading to the United States to wage war on us here. A new direction from there means, what? **

**Now let me see, do I have this right? I can expect: **

**a.. The economy to go South **

**b.. Illegals to go North **

**c.. Taxes to go Up **

**d.. Employment to go Down **

**e.. Terrorism to come **

**f.. **Tax breaks to go Out **

**g.. Social Security to go away **

;**h.. Health Care to go the same way gas prices have gone **

**But what the heck! I can gain comfort by knowing that Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Edward Kennedy, Howard Dean, Harry Reid, and Barak Obama have worked hard to create a comprehensive National Security Plan, Health Care Plan, Immigration Reform Plan, Gay Rights Plan, Same Sex Marriage Plan, Abortion On Demand Plan, Tolerance of Everyone and Everything Plan, How to Return all Troops to the U.S. in The Next Six Months Plan, A Get Tough Plan, adapted from the French Plan by the same name and a How Everyone Can Become as Wealthy as We Are Plan. Oh, and I almost forgot the No More Katrina Storm Plan. **

**Now I know why I feel good after the elections. I am going to be able to sleep soooooo much better at nights knowing these dedicated politicians are thinking of me and my welfare. **
