WASHINGTON Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.
As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

It is a beautiful day here. As the Fox News reporter correctly noted...it's rare for us to have so much blue sky and sunshine during the winter months.
Have you seen the wonderful picture of President Bush with folded arms receiving a blessing from the priest giving out Communion at the Mass he attended in New Orleans last September?
Off we go, still debating where exactly we will take our place along the motorcade :)
I will let you know how it goes.
My parish has the traditional Mass at 11:00 a.m. also and then, in evening at 5:30, they have what is called the "Teen Life" Mass and that includes contemporary music. It's nice too, but I am SO traditional.
I was raised in the American Baptist Church, which is vastly different from Southern Baptist. It is (or was) High Church compared to most Protestant denominations, except perhaps Presbyterian.
God be with you, Dolphy.
Please instruct me.
:)
The Fox producer should have whispered in someone's ear: find a step for Wallace to stand on, and tell him to brush his hair back. I bet heads will roll in the production dept when Wallace sees what he looked like in today's 'interview.'
So happy that the weather in DC was good for the funeral - not one of the infrequent, but NASTY, blizzards they get.
Thanks, Dolphy. I wish I knew how to "look" for you!!!
Be safe!!!!
Enjoy the day and thanks for representing all of us! Will be looking forward to your report. When I saw the skies in Grand Rapids, I smiled -- what wonderful weather to welcome home the biggest supporter of the maize and blue!
No, I haven't. That is quite significant... I missed that.
He could easily have been a pastor, I think.
I am too! The blue skies behind one of the President's plane is magnificent. To have this beautiful of day in January is wonderful. I feel so sorry for Betty Ford right now. God needs to give her strength to get through the rest of this day!
the son that was the actor is still so handsome
Thank you very much! I didn't know that. I appreciate your contribution to the discussion.
I have yet to see a flyover the last few days...have I missed it?
Bringing his casket to Air Force One now
