WASHINGTON — Gerald R. Ford leaves his beloved U.S. Capitol for the last time Tuesday as the period set aside for ordinary Americans to say goodbye gives way to an elaborate invitation-only funeral at the awe-inspiring Washington National Cathedral.

As the first order of business Tuesday, Ford's remains were being removed from the Rotunda to lie in repose briefly outside the Senate before leaving the Capitol where Ford served as a congressman for 25 years. As vice president, Ford also had the constitutional title of president of the Senate.

Carter was always contemptuous of Washington DC. I frankly would not be surprised if he decided NOT to have his funeral in DC, but instead in Plains, GA, where they came up. It would be his final 'stick poke in the eye' to the DC crowd. It's also possible that he'll choose to not have Rosalyn escorted by Pres. Bush, if he dies during this term, but by some personal friend or a Democrat colleague; maybe even X42.

I think you are correct. I can see Al Sharpton right up in front too. Maybe the Brown funeral was a warm-up for Clinton's.

That works for me! I would love not having it in D.C. or having Pres Bush there! I think you could be right!

Brian Wilson? The head of the Beach Boys was there? Do you mean Brian Williams of NBC?

If it hasn't been stated yet, "For All the Saints" is Anglican in origin (Ralph Vaughn Williams, British composer, wrote the second tune and it first appeared in the English Hymnal), and used in both Protestant and Catholic traditions.

Thank you!

I only attend Mass now, and it will take awhile to complete my RCIA.

Thanks. Not familiar with him - I rarely see any network news, in fact. I was thinking of the blond guy on NBC and thinking, "why doesn't that sound right....?"

Dick Cheney is my absolute politician because he is not like a politician -- he says what he thinks and so does his wife. I would support Dick Cheney for President any day! Best SecDef we ever had IMHO not to mention Vice President!

He was a great man who served his country well. He took a job that not alot of people would have wanted at the time and did a fine job. God Bless President Ford.

Is he? Never seen him except in the picture on this thread, where he isn't standing up.

"I would support Dick Cheney for President any day!"

Me too, and there are not many Republicans that I'm willing to say that about, at this particular moment.

I'd love to have Lynn Cheney as First Lady.
