The ACLU is Fighting for the Trafficking of Women Worldwide
Part-Time Pundit ^ | 1-2-07 | John Bambenek

The latest in the quest by the ACLU to force liberalism down our throats through the courts. more here:

The ACLU is arguing before a federal appeals court that the United States is funding AIDS prevention unconstitutionally. Specifically, they argue that having a ban on funds to organizations that promote commercial sex work inhibits free speech. It should be no surprise that the ACLU is in bed with those who want to legalize prostitution.

It is true that advocating the legalization of prostitution is free speech. That doesn't mean that such speech needs to be funded by the government. As much as some like to think otherwise, Uncle Sam isn't an ATM machine for every special interest. The old saying goes, "He who pays the piper calls the tune." If one doesn't like the government's rules, don't take the government's money.

More importantly though is that the advocacy for legalized prostitution and AIDS prevention are mutually exclusive. One cannot support the reduction of AIDS infections and support legal prostitution at the same time. Prostitution remains one of the leading vectors for AIDS infection. This is true in the case of both legal and illegal prostitution.

ACLU member: "This is my little sister. She is a whore, you can all have her for $20. Long live freedom of speech!"

When I hear this line from ACLU member, only than I would beleve that they are honest.

Let's stop referring to the ACLU as a "liberal" organization. They are not liberal in the classical sense of that word. The ACLU is a leftist group; they promote Leftism. (Or better, Extreme Leftism.)

Disgusting, but unsurprising for the ACLU.

Prostitution remains one of the leading vectors for AIDS infection. This is true in the case of both legal and illegal prostitution.

It seems that's NOT the case where prostitution is legal AND regulated by health codes. How many cases of any STDs have been transmitted by the legal brothels in Nevada over the years?

I have a "gut feeling" that some people are thinking of making prostitution more readily available. In that case, a better question would be, "How many people have become ill by eating at inspected eateries?"

Regulating thousands of brothels would be quite a job.

Plenty of potential for bribing inspectors.

Heaven forbid the government not sponsor groups that support illegal activity.

Regardless of one's position on issues, the government should not support anything that is illegal, and debate of government funding should only be made once the legality of that activity (in this case, prostitution, or "work sex") is defined.

Is there any evidence that legal prostitution suppresses illegal prositution?

As I understand it, when countries like Germany invested big in government-franchised brothels to service customers at recent public events, their use was far less than antiicipated, because men who wanted normal sex were getting it from their girlfriends (nothing's cheaper than free), and men who wanted something edgy and dangerous (including underage girls, condom-free etc) couldn't get that at a government brothel.

How many illegal whores compete with the legal ones in e.g. Nevada or Amsterdam? I bet there's more rather than less.

From a female point of view anyway, what a profoundly depressing subject.

I don't have any problems with adults patronizing prostitutes. But I do object to the government subsidizing the world's oldest profession.
