Broncos right cornerback Darrent Williams was shot and killed this morning. After leaving a nightclub in a limousine, Williams was shot and killed near 11th and Grant in Denver. The team confirmed the death of Williams. A female passenger also was shot, according to a source familiar with Williams.
Williams was 24.
"I learned from the Denver Police Deprtment that this incident has occured," Williams' agent, Jeff Griffin said early Monday morning. "No other details have been released. I sincerely offer my condolences and feelings to his family."
Williams was the Broncos' starting right cornerback and played his final game for the team in a 26-23 overtime loss to the San Francisco 49ers that eliminated Denver from the playoffs on New Year's Eve.
How tragic for him and his family. Prayers for their comfort.
Without further information, all I can say is he was at the wrong place at the wrong time.
One shocked Bronco fan here.......................
One shocked Patriot fan here! Sympathies to his family and to the Broncos.
Pointing it out does not make you racist, but it extends beyond rap. The US went to hell when drugs became widely available and used during the '60s. Black families were mostly intact before then and blacks knew the value of a good education. When drugs came to the community, dealing and stealing was a way to support the habit and to make money. Then doped up criminals with guns took over and people were dying all over the black neighborhoods. Liberals responded by offering money to people to stay doped up and unemployed and trying to take away guns from everybody. Drugs and government handouts have enslaved the inner city and made people stupid. They think that standing on the street corner, getting high and waving a gun is a business model for success. Prayers for Williams' family and the Broncos organization.
11th and Grant at 2 AM? No, I won't take that bet.
Consider that the NFL did nothing to discipline Ray Lewis.
Let's hear it for the National Felons League.
For us non-Denverites, can you describe that neighborhood?
he was a classy guy..I remember one year he had a truly sucky season and offered to give his salary back because he felt he hadn't earned it..Gene Autry refused his offer and paid him anyway..
It happend at 11th and Speer. Speer Boulevard is a through street that runs along the west side of downtown Denver. It runs by the Pepsi Center. Mostly businesses and some lofts, as well as the Auraria campus line the 4 lane boulevard. As far as I know it's not a high crime area.
NFL ping...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Prayers for his family and for the young woman's recovery.
Basketball isn't lost yet. (See: PHX SUNS!!) Besides being a Suns fan, I think culturally their success is absolutely critical to the sport. If they can win the NBA championship, it will send a message that "thug ball" is not necessary to success.
Did you see this?
Sad...really sad. What a way to start the new year.
In December, Williams spoke of his desire to return to his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas, this offseason to talk to kids about staying out of gangs.
I'll let that stand to those who say he probably mixed with the wrong crowd.
ping
Was he supposed to throw the game and didn't? You know, just because the Broncs lost doesn't mean these deals don't need to be enforced.
Heck, I can make speculations without data with the best of them! ;-)
