...Perhaps your screen name should be "DepartmentofRedundancy."...

Sorry, it's "FReepaholic".

You seem to be confused and just want to whine and impose your own morality on others.

You are complaining about the cost, or you wouldn't say in 428:

"It costs money to run the choppers ... And it just didn't have to be."

You do appear to be jealous that someone would want to enjoy their lives this way. And how dare they impose pain and suffering on their family and friends. Guess what, I would rather my loved one be out doing what he/she loves doing, and die doing it, than have them home miserable.

The left uses the same emotional argument about why we should not have our soldiers in harms way in the WOT. And yes, it is the same argument because all of the soldiers fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq volunteered. They die, their families hurt. How dare they do that to their families and cost taxpayers money in doing so.

You're never too old to hike. There's more than one way to get to the summit.

Get some good hiking poles. They take 1/3 the body weight off the legs.

I think you are much younger than me and I ride my bike hard for an hour every day.

Remember, every day is a mountain...take it one step at a time. Take your time, get strong slowly.

You guess? Go put your ample fanny back on the couch. Say no to Lewis and Clark, Colombus, Lance Armstrong, Edmund Hillary, and these poor self-gratified guys.

You don't have to get personal, and my fanny is fine and firm, thank you.

I would not put my children, and family members through my untimely death, just to be a "thrill seeker".

Did these men have a mission to change the world, as the ones you mentioned above? If so, enlighten me, please.

And while you're at it, say a prayer for those who have, and continue to, risk their lives in this rescue mission. And for the families.

I have a friend on FR that has an interesting tagline lately.

It says "I would rather lose a lover that love a loser."

A point missed by Jez.

...If she is around for long, the old freepers will be jumping ship like proverbial rats...

Class of '98 here. I ain't worried about her. I'm a two time veteran of the Spouse Wars.

I've got two ex-wives and (Glory Hallelujah) two ex-mother's in law.

Change starts with one's self. I know climbers and runners and cyclists personally. They are trying to change themselves. They are trying to become vibrant. They are trying to shake the negativity of those who say they shouldn't try.

Nietzsche got it right...the couch potatoes missed that one.

I am an avid sports fan, as you can see by my tagline. Sports is about working hard, doing your best, and winning. And if it comes down to it, losing gracefully.

You are totally off the subject, and don't get the point. Putting other's lives in danger for no other means than self gratification is not courage. It's heartbreaking to the loved ones left behind.

While the climbers families are heartbroken, I bet they would not have stopped their loved ones from climbing. If you have listened to the news conferences by the families, you would know how they feel.

Don't presume to force your narrow minded opinion on others.

This is what one of the climbers brother had to say today...in fact the brother of the climber who is dead.

Frank James said that the ring had his brother's initials on it.

He read a statement thanking the searchers for trying to find his brother and said he was praying for a safe return of the two other missing climbers.

He read this statement:

"This is a difficult day for all three families. Our hope was that Kelly, Brian and Jerry would all be rescued safely and that has led these families to become very, very close. We’re persuaded that Kelly has been found. But I feel like I have two other brothers still on the mountain, and the James family is deeply, deeply grateful to the rescue efforts to date. We wish the rescue workers godspeed in their ongoing efforts to bring Brian and Jerry down that mountain safely ...

"We find strength in your support and we join all of you in your prayers for the safe return of Brian and Jerry ... As christians, we find peace that Kelly is with God ... Kelly always told us he felt closest to God when he was on the mountain. That is what drove him to climb. We find enormous comfort in knowing he lifted off that mountain from a place he loved, and from doing something that he loved very, very much...

"Thank you for all of your support. The family is very grateful.

LOL!

So, once again, people smart enough to stay off this mountain at this time of year are now losers???

I guess that explains why you weren't up there, you being this great mountain climber and all.

I am LMAO! :> :> :>

Being a sports fan is one big step removed from being a participant. What you see in the stadium or on TV is a spectator sport.

I work out because I have to. It is a medical solution to a serious problem. I know first hand this subject matter.

"Better to lose a lover than love a loser."

Hey Froufrou...second time I have invoked your tag.

The climbers could have at least carried locators to help the searchers find their bodies.

I don't force my opinion, I simply state it. This is a forum I've posted on for awhile. My opinion is a valid as yours. If you ASSUME otherwise, I feel very sorry for you.
