In Following His Own Script, Webb May Test Senate's Limits ("tempted to slug" Bush)
The Washington Post ^ | 11/29/2006 | Michael D. Shear

Posted on 11/29/2006 9:26:40 AM PST by ReagansRaiders

The WashPo tells us today of a recent encounter between Sen.-elect Jim Webb and President Bush:

"How's your boy?" Bush asked, referring to Webb's son, a Marine serving in Iraq.

"I'd like to get them out of Iraq, Mr. President," Webb responded, echoing a campaign theme.

"That's not what I asked you," Bush said. "How's your boy?"

"That's between me and my boy, Mr. President," Webb said coldly, ending the conversation on the State Floor of the East Wing of the White House.

But that is only part of the story. The Hill takes it one step further:

Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didn’t.

And, if I am not mistaken, this event was at the White House. Nice manners, ignorning the host and then being rude to him. And the host happens to be the President of the United States.

Only a first rats Puss telss people they "should have" hit someone. A man would have done it instead of puffing up like a pompous little grouse and talking smack.

I hope an ex-Marine is tempted to slug Webb.

Tempted, of course, and no further.

"It wasn't Bush's question that made Webb want to slug him, it was Bush's smart ass response to the answer. I don't blame Webb one bit."

Then you are no better than Webb. The Persident of the United Staates of America asked the man a nice simeple question. When I ask somebody a simple question and they dodge it while taking a shot at me, I'll freaking call them on it too.

To these morons this is nothing but a basketball game, complete with trash-talk.

When you elect the political and mental equivalent of Ron Artest and Latrell Sprewell to public office, expect NBA-style behavior and comments.

Guess Webb isn't smart enough, as a veteran, to recall that President Bush is his son's BOSS and it therefore is HIS business to inquire about it Webb's son. He was, however, trying to be gracious. Something Webb is obviously NOT.

Looks as if Virginia got themselves a class act in electing Mr. Webb. Problem is, it is a low class dumbsh**.

Nice to know you share Webb's values. If you mosey on down to DU you'll be more than welcome.

Here, despite our differences, we respect the office of the Presidency.

It wasn't Bush's question that made Webb want to slug him, it was Bush's smart ass response to the answer. I don't blame Webb one bit.

That is absolute nonsense. Webb went off on a rant first, and Bush was most tempered in his response, "that's not what I asked..." This man is the Commander in Chief of all of our armed services and it was most gracious of the President to even inquire of Webb's son, notwithstanding the vicious comments that Webb made against the President throughout the campaign.

This is a liberal's definition of suitable manners: show up at someone else's home, ignore the host, be rude to the host, and then leak your rudeness to the Washington Post.

I hope the people of Virginia hear a good deal about this, because 10:1 people will support the President's behavior and not Senator-elect Webb.

I wonder if Webb's son who is "serving by choice" really agrees with his father on the war and the withdrawal or cut and run option that Webb wants. Would be interesting to know.

President Bush should have asked Webb about new techniques to cut up bananas , innovative ways for men to greet their baby sons ,ragheads and caricatures of Jews.
More comfortable areas for Webb.
Webb should spend less time getting Botox and more time reviewing the proper ways to address the Commander in Chief.
He's an arrogant and disrespectful hot head- this is only the tip of the iceberg.

You've got to be kidding. I thought Bush was extremely magnanimous after all the nonsense he's had to put up with from grandstanding politicians. He was expressing interest in the person - not the political issue.

Don't blame me... I voted for Allen. Of course Allen was basically doomed. The media pounded him every waking moment of every day. It was brutal to watch. I'm glad it's finally over, but then I remember that Webb is stepping in. We are so screwed.

Wonder if someone can "leak" the email from Webb's son to his father saying, "Dad, please shut the f**k up when you're addressing my boss."

Maybe his kid thinks he's a jerk, too.

What does "the boy" want? Real lefties can only refer to their children in a political sense. What a jacka$$.

The senate is a club, and James Webb is an oaf who will wear out his welcome quickly.

Perhaps the Commander in Chief should transfer the Webb kid to the Green Zone until such time as the father apologizes for his disgraceful and rude behavior.
