Good one. No wonder Crissy left.... maybe I should too.
"The righteous right is as dangerous to our liberty as the loony left. Both want to use the force of government to push their particular morals. Neither is willing to "live and let live." I fear for our once great Republic."
In talking to most of my friends - who are church goers - most Democrats, no matter the denomination, voted for Prop 5. Most conservatives and "Libertarians," be they Catholic, Methodist, or Lutheran, etc. either voted for prop 4 or against both. The Democrat cheat sheet for Ohio advised voters to vote yes on prop 5. Independent conservatives almost unanimously voted against prop 5, where as "moderates" voted for it. Many of my clients are conservative and Catholic, none of them smoke, though a few like myself used to and quit. They all feared the law for the precedent it set. It's all about money, as is Eminent Domain, which is even more dangerous and no one got to vote on.
58-42.
Thanks for the ping. Welcome to OheilO.
To Shelion:
This has gone way past cigarettes, booze, or Big Macs.
These kinds of things are a totalitarian act of war against a free people. Soon, this will be nation-wide, and it will continue to grow into something far more devious than a mere snitch-line.
To ALL:
Folks, how much more of this are you going to stomach?
When will it have been enough? When you're in the re-education camps?
Can't happen, huh? Not here, you say?
Ask all those Germans and Jews how it happened.
Oh, and don't forget to ask all the dead Russians how it could happen, too.
This kind of behavior always turns away from "for the children" and "for the worker", and then grows and morphs into the greatests causes of death and human suffering the world has ever known. Jesus, folks, we just went through this shit 60 years ago, in Europe.
And the sheeple want to let it start here????????????????
This past weekend marked th 4th anniversary of the same snitch line in Delaware.
Wouldn't it be nice if the Helath Department put as much effort in their sanitary inspections as they do in smoking inspections? Just think, a Delaware restaurant can serve food from a roach infested kitchen with impunity, but can and will be shut down after 3 violations of the smoker ban.
Someone's priorities are really, really screwed up.
Cops are going to need to hire secret informer patrols to spend the time running around pointing out offenders. Sounds pleasant, don't like your neighbor or someone at work? Tell on them or maybe ... make it up or set them up. Sounds like personal freedom is going to be a thing of the past.
Thanks for the additional information. I have to wonder how your Church going friends could even consider voting Democrat. That is one that always confuses me.
Thanks for the ping!
Fortunately this was NOT a constitutional amendment (like that indexed minimum wage business killer) and can be changed by the legislature. That ballot measure is so confusing they don't even agree on how it is to be implemented. It is going to be a litigation nightmare and a lawyers dream. Stupid Ohio voters have no idea what they just voted for.
Apparently in New York city they don't even have to catch anyone smoking - just having an ash tray is enough.
"I don't smoke. Never have, never will but I voted against this gawd-awful ordnance...(sigh) but then I voted for Ken Blackwell, too."
Same here! I live in the Cincinnati area and voted "NO" on all of the issues and voted FOR Ken Blackwell.
Looks like that may end up on the ballot in two years. Watch the ads for that one...ought to be a real show from the pro-eminent domain Nazis.
Hey, that solution's easy. Report people for smoking in the kitchen, and maybe they'll find the real roaches!
Ahhhh Delaware. hehe!
Remember this?
We're already a nation of snitches. Just as these guys.
Shouldn't the money first pay for the signs that are mandated?
I e-mailed by State Senator this morning asking that the Legislators look into this law, especially the sign that is to be posted at all public locations.
and assholes.
And I voted the same. All of the Issues were very poorly written law which will hurt our great State.
