Legendary University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler has died. He collapsed Friday morning at Channel 7s Broadcast House as he prepared to tape the Big Ten Ticket show.
Schemechler passed away at Providence Hospital in Southfield. He was taken to the hospital by paramedics Friday morning.
The former coach had 2 major heart attacks and 2 quadruple bypass surgeries.
Just 2 weeks ago, he had a pacemaker implanted.
I must say that phrase was the first thing that entered my mind when I heard the news. RIP Bo!!! Thanks for all the joy of Meeechigan Football growing up, although obviously my collegiate allegiance has changed.
Mega-dittoes on that!
No kidding.
I bleed Boilermaker gold and black, but consider myself so extremely fortunate to have grown up watching the yearly Bo/Woody showdowns, not to mention their bowl games. I bet they will be sitting together in heaven (at least I think that's where Woody wound up!) watching the game tomorrow.
Bo always reminded me of my uncle, who was a football coach in Ohio and had a heart problem which kept him out of the service and eventually killed him much too early. He even looked a lot like Bo.
RIP, Bo, from a Purdue Boilermaker. RIP to Woody, too, since we didn't have message boards back then.
From an Ohio State fanatic, RIP to a great coach.
Dittos to that! The Woody-Bo rivalry was one for the history books! (Wearing my scarlet and gray today with my buckeye necklace!)
Bo no doubt is now occupying "That Cloud Up North."
LOL!

Bump for Bo and Woody!
Article quotes his age as 77.
I'd love to hear THAT post-game analysis.
Woody: "What the heck are they doing passing on first down? We NEVER passed on first down."
Bo: "They pass a lot now, Woodrow. The game has changed..."
Woody: "Oh, ferchissakes!..."
St. Peter: "Hey! Watch that!"
Woody: "Oops, sorry! Forgot where I was."
My own biased opinion is that Hail to the Victors is the best fight song in all of college sports, even better than the Notre Dame song. But even this Michigan backer will admit that few traditions in the college game are more impressive than Script Ohio.
LOL!!!
I believe Woody was the one who said, "Three things can happen when you throw the football. And two of them are bad."
The most winningest, storied team in the the history of college football will carry on with you in mind.
Sure, the sport lost a great coach but the real loss is that society lost a goliath of a man.
I thought that was Darryl Royal who said that.
Of course to me that quote never made sense. When you run the ball, you can get tackled for a loss, or fumble the ball.
Rest in Peace Bo.
GO WOLVERINES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
