Best Buy Bans Use of Merry Christmas In Advertising
Forbes.com ^ | 11/11/06 | By ANNE D'INNOCENZIO

Best Buy has announced they will be using "Happy Holidays" this coming Christmas shopping season, and they will not be using "Merry Christmas."

Dawn Bryant, a spokeswoman at Best Buy Co. Inc., says their advertising will not be using the term "Merry Christmas." "We are going to continue to use the term holiday because there are several holidays throughout that time period, and we certainly need to be respectful of all of them," Bryant said. I sold them a couple of years ago. BTW, the best prices you get for T-Shirts on eBay are the 5XL size. I always notice that the buyers usually live far from metropolitan areas. I guess when there are no Big and Tall stores around you have to buy off eBay if you need 5XL. I sold a couple of Tampa Bay Bucaneer Tie Dyed 5XL T-shirts once for $35 and $36 respectively. I have to say that the Best Buy Golf shirts were really good quality. They came in Blue and Yellow colors.

Thanks, guys!

I wouldn't be surprised if these e-mails produce the desired result. After all, Lowe's rushed "Merry Christmas" signs to their stores last year in response to critical e-mails. Let's keep it up!

Good. Now all the muslim shoppers can go there without being offended. As for me, I'll go where I am welcome.

I will try to avoid Best Buys.

I mean, I'm doing Christmas shopping. If they aren't marketing for Christmas why patronize them.

A really smart marketer would use both.

I wish I'd seen this a couple hours ago before I went shopping at Best Buy. At least it was only $15.

It's time, once again, for...

The 'Christ-Less' Song"

Church hymns being dropped by children's choirs,
Jackboots dump red and green clothes,
corporate grinch sits around and conspires
To force "holiday Trees" on us at Lowe's

Don't you people know ? Some turkeys just banned mistletoe!!!
It makes some people feel uptight
Whiny snots! They're just mean Christophobes
I don't know how they sleep at night.

I guess that Santa's still OK;
Until some lawyer gets his way.
One with too much time on their hands will try
To get judges to ban outdoor lights

I once could offer you this harmless phrase
But thanks to the ACLU
Because it offends many kinds, many ways
No "Merry Christmas" for you!!!

And so the PC cops have banned this phrase,
in retail stores and publik skools,
Because it offends, many kinds, many ways,
No "Merry Christmas" for you!!!

Return the item, ask to speak to the manager, and tell him/her why!

(copy of post I put on another board):

WalMart unlike some big name retailers (Best Buy comes to mind) is actively using the C-word in its
"hhhhhholiday" advertising (I'm typing the word the way Howie Carr says it). Whether or not you're
Christian or religious in any way: December 25 is Christmas. I'm off from work on Christmas Day.
What I'm buying are Christmas presents, not "holiday". These stores have every right to say "Christmas"
or not. I have every right to boycott any store that is so "PC" that they're afraid to offend certain
people by daring to say the C-word.

My CHRISTMAS gift money will be spent where it is appreciated.

In the meantime, those who object can go to Best Buy and buy a copy of A HOLIDAY STORY or WHITE HOLIDAY on
DVD. Sing "I'll be Home For Holiday", "Have a Holly Jolly Holiday..." etc.

Do you have an alternative to BB that you can recommend?

Years ago I started doing my shopping for electronics and computer products online at Newegg.com and never looked back. They have good prices, low-cost and very fast shipping, and outstanding customer service. The only reason to go into a Best Buy is when I need to eyeball a product to evaluate it before ordering online.

Well Best Buy has this at the top of their site (with nothing like it on the Walmart homepage):

Plus Walmart ranks Christmas right up their with Kwanzaa. What's next...Festivus at Walmart??? I'll stick with Best Buy.
