Should have happened before this IMO! Should have happened after the election in 2004 and we would be in better shape in Iraq.
Tommy Franks works for me!

It sucks, but we need to do this to take some wind out of the Dem sails.

Announcement tomorrow will be he's taking Roberts and Alito off the Court and replacing with Miers and O'Connor again to be a "uniter.
Day after tomorrow will be that he and Cheney are resigning so that Pelosi can be President.

So, does Bush try to get a new SecDef in before the new Congress takes power? If not, the hearings are going to be a circus...

"FNC has picked it up, quoting AP. Now the question is, who's the next SecDef going to be?"
Doesn't matter. Unless it is a Liberal, he/she won't get approved by the Senate.
Let the games begin.
My bet is Joe Lieberman.

Just have to add my voice to the chorus - if Rumsfeld wanted to resign, why not do it weeks or months ago? The perception will be that this is another body blow for the Bush administration.
To: zbigreddogz
Rick Santorum?
I would rather see Cheney resign for health reasons and Santorum get appointed VP then throwing Rumsfeld under the bus.
To: BigSkyFreeper
it's going to get a lot worse and I don't know if we can survive it this time
It will take us a very very long time to recover

This is too bad - we are winng the GWOT in general and Iraq and Afghanistan in particular.
It may be a part of a deal with the new Dem leadership.
To: I want to know
NO. The Lame Duck session of the Republican-controlled Congress can push through the nomination and ratification of his replacement. Look for Bolton to be pushed through as well.

You mean that Gannett paper?
To: Paradox
He shouldn't go all the way to suicide, then. Except for the opinion that he should have sent more troops to Iraq, he seems to have done generally good work as Secretary of Defense, and his standing up to Democrats and the media was good.

The only thing I can think of is that Rummy doesn't want any part of the DIM initiated pull out of Iraq.
