So.....then the absentees have NOT been counted? Gosh the reporting on the absentee situation is absolutely ghastly.

MD was a state where the GOP made a very big push to vote absentee, some of these states are now 25% absentee. That could be 600,000 GOP-leaning votes in MD.

I quit listening to Boortz and Savage long ago. Neither of them live in the real world, although Boortz is at least entertaining.

I'm tired and headed to bed, but if Conrad Burns loses tonight, the people who voted for the libertarian could well be the difference and if the few thousand of them listened to Neal Boortz and did exactly that, in essence they voted Dem and we most-likely lost the Senate for years to come.

I happened to love my Senator (Kyl), but even as much as I detest McCain, I would have hesitated to vote against him to give the win to someone like Pederson and I have never sat out an election since I became old enough to vote. My biggest mistake ever was voting for Perot and electing Bill Clinton ergo voting 3rd party isn't any different than staying home or voting for the rat.

"I know what you mean, but I don't think there will be enough caving GOP congressmen to override any vetoes. If Bush does veto something - or at least threaten and mean it - the congress won't be able to do anything too crazy."

Some senators maybe, but Reps have to run again in two years, their reelection campaigns start again very soon, in fact about 5 hrs from now tomorrow morning. Many of them will look at the piles of Republican corpses and put their fingers in the wind and start checking the signs.

Sorry I just do not see a "stand and deliver" attitude coming out of this. And the mainstream media will do everything to quash any such notion.

With luck, "compassionate conservatism", aka modest tax cuts and massive spending, is now dead, at least as a Republican election strategy.

That is certainly one of the few bright sides from tonight. Hopefully, it will be a lesson well learned.

Completely and utterly wrong, and I am as nauseous as you about it :(

I think that we all were in the same boat with this. However, I think that we can use the polls to our advantage. For example, if we have a five point loss in a poll we could get an immediate GOTV drive where we call people and perhaps do a commercial as soon as the poll comes out instead of waiting until the last couple weeks. It might work.

I'm using ABC News, because I can't find the tally on the Sec. of State website. Anyway, ABC/Associated Press now has Burns within 5500 votes.

The GOP's lack of response to the illegal immigration marches this spring severely depressed the base. This coupled with out of control speneding resulted in a 5% to 10% 'headwind' that all of the GOP candidates ran against.

Even if the base was solidly there (and I think it was not withstanding your contention), it could not overcome the perception put forth by the MSM and the Rats that the war was not being fought let alone won in a timely manner. "Cut and run", unfortunately, is what brought many independents and some Republicans to the polls.

If you had actually read what I posted, you'd realize you are wrong. But I really don't give a $hit what you think. You chose to post to me. I was simply reporting what I was seeing, and nobody, including you, bothered to explain why the numbers were wrong in view of my explanation about what was said on Fox.

You just wanted to get in on a gang-bang.

Yep I think the Republicans will have learned this lesson well! Mo More Taxcuts ever! We must pay for our massive spending!

Bingo. In case anybody is wondering, that sound we just heard was the GOP lurching to the left.

Unintended consequences and all that.
