Here's an antidote from an unlikely corner for all the Dem outrage at the 'November surprise' of the Saddam verdict. On this morning's 'Today,' none other than Chris Matthews just pronounced his considered opinion that the verdict actually helps . . . the Democrats.
According to Matthews, given the unpopularity of the war, anything that draws attention to Iraq hurts Republicans. Apparently that even extends to a good-news story such as the Saddam verdict. Opined Matthews to host Lester Holt:
"One general rule would be anything that brings attention to Iraq is bad for the Republicans. I think Iraq's become a four-letter word for the voter. And this trial and condemnation of Saddam Hussein is probably going to remind us of Iraq again. It's probably going to help the Democrats to some extent."
More predicatable was the analysis over at CNN, where a skeptical Susan Roesgen asked Suzanne Malveaux:
"What about critics, especially in Iraq, even Saddam Hussein's chief lawyer, who say the verdict was timed to come out just before the election to help the GOP?"
Well, if Saddam's lawyer said it, that should surely be good enough for CNN!
Roesgen continued her effort to rain on the Saddam-verdict parade in a subsequent interview of international criminal law expert Prof. Michael Scharf of Case Western law school. Asked the cynical CNN host:
"Does this turn [Saddam] into a martyr for the Iraqi people more than a monster?"
Oh yeah - huge martyr to all those Shias and Kurds whose relatives he slaughtered.
And later: "In some ways this trial has been a sideshow compared to the ongoing bloodshed in the streets of Iraq. Does this verdict really matter?"
Translation: let's get off this positive development and back to the IEDs!
To his credit, Prof. Scharf, who has written a book about the trial, gave a balanced view of events, noting the trial has served as a model of due process in contrast with the courts under Saddam. If Iraq can stay together as a country, the trial will be seen as a key point in bringing back the rule of law, opined the professor.
Let's hope the good professor himself will be be brought back by CNN despite his refusal to take direction from Roesgen's gloom-'n-doom script.
LOL!
Good post.
You should do a write-up on Matthew's pontifications about the TN senate race. He was ranting today about how Harold Ford will lose because of racism ... and what a disgrace it is that we have had so few black senators (the implication being that this is due to racism).
Apparently it's lost on him that it could be the voters considered opinion that compared to Bob Corker, Harold Ford is an immature dufus who has never had a real job. Naturally he also included a tirade about the suppopsedly racist RNC ad with the blonde bimbo. (If you don't see how racist it is, you just don't have a clue. That's me, clueless.)
The best part was when it dawned on him that a black man is about to be elected governor of Massachusetts. His explanation: blacks can win where they are not too large a percentage of the population, because it's not too threatening to have them in power in that circumstance. (I am not making this up).
Completely lost on this boob is how close Michael Steele is to victory in Maryland. Percentage-wise, Maryland has *twice* the black population of Tennessee. Moreover, Steele is running better among whites than blacks, in fact he is getting more of the white vote than Cardin.
This is typical liberal behavior: replacing facts with a woolly-headed analysis in order to appear virtuous. But there's nothing virtuous about it.
ditto
I read somewhere that one of the Ceasars while traveling through a small village of mud huts said to one of his officers that he would rather be number one in this small village, than to be number two in all of Rome.
I used to think it was the hate, but I have come to believe that the media's lust for power is so overwhelming that they would actually reduce the country to mud huts in order to regain their lost power.
Wait until these critics see the Monday morning headlines ... "Osama Bin Laden found hiding in a spider hole with photographs of the burning Twin Towers." Hehehehehe. Hope they're all wearing their 'Depends'.
He said this? He really said this!?! Then this liberal idiot wouldn't know real news if it jumped up and bit him in the *ss. Chrissy, the real question is: do YOU really matter? I think we all know the answer to that one.
Let's be serious here people. Everyone knows that this is a boost for the Pubs. Small or big, it's a boost for the Pubs.
Bush is the guy that's ultimately responsible for this guy even being in a court. Then, the Pub congress is responsible for supporting The President with the funds to do the fighting, and lastly, but not least, our Republican backed, uneducated, military is responsible for dragging this guy to jail.
This is a win win win for the Pubs.
Matthews is a hack. I can't even take the guy seriously anymore.
LOL. Even Dan Rather was on Fox this morning saying it would help the Republicans. He also added that the economy also worked in our favor. This, coming from Rather, Saddam's buddy.
News flash! The entire male contingent of Congressional democrats are under investigation for child slavery and child porn operations. Chris Mathews reports that this should help democrat candidates as these people are certainly victims of child abuse which will create a wave of symphathy votes from women across America.
Matthews has never recovered from his hero-worship of John Kennedy. That's the extent of his depth. Kennedy was a dolt, but, as the Democrats surge faster and faster into to suicidal psychosis of Leftist decadence, he looks better and better by comparison.
"I know that it is wrong to hate somebody, God forgive me, but I despise this creature."
Please don't feel as if you are alone.
Yep, Matthews is just parroting the Dims' talking points. I've heard the same POG from other Dims this morning.
(POG = Pile Of Garbage)
""Then of course their moms came home from work and explained it to them..."
"
A couple of months ago a freerer commented on some of the chatter on Daily Kos, DU and moveon.org about moving to
Canada if the democrats lost this election. The freeper observed that most of them would have to be driven to the border and dropped off by their mothers.
"This is typical liberal behavior: replacing facts with a woolly-headed analysis in order to appear virtuous.."
Democratic virtue is as rare as fellatio in the oval office during a republican administration.
Spitboy is stuck in 1965 when there was a Filter on the News and he could tell us What this means. So Screwball, if the Dems were in charge would Saddamn by convicted or still President??
Pray for W and The Election
Dims NEVER cite JFK's most famous admonition: "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country."
Spin-o-rama, Chrissy boy.
Weird thing is I went to visit some friends in the Amish community this weekend. There were loads of signs for Republicans Swann and Matthews,(the brother of Chris)
