Iraq urges calm ahead of Saddam verdict

BAGHDAD, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister on Saturday urged his countrymen to accept the impending verdict against Saddam Hussein without violence, then in the next breath declared the former dictator must get "what he deserves" with the decision that could send him to the gallows.
Wow --
Never visited DU - and never intend to (weak stomach...)
But thank you for this little dip into he!! -- Dante had it all wrong.....
Especially post #19 (didn't think they could count that high..)
" We really need to tell that 'truth' 2 days before an election?? "
with its tacit admission that the "truth" is their enemy...
Just, wow.....
You know, I mourn the division in our nation that both parties can't at least stand united on issues like this. It's a tragedy that the opposition has so decidedly gone off the deep end as to be supportive of America's enemies.
In the Civil War, one reflects on how while divisions over politics were strong enough to go to war, that the general traights that define Americans such as God, family and country (even if country=state back then) were predominant values among Americans on both sides. From that perspective you could say the combat was truly brother against brother.
However the divide today is so polarizing as to make the opposition appear completely alien, not only politically, but they seem to have diametrically opposed values. It's like matter versus anti-matter. Put the two together and you don't want to be around for the results.
My point is that I believe the divisions are so vast between both sides that I don't believe they can be reconciled. The implications there are obvious. We'll need to continue as always to politically castrate the opposition, whether they are in power or not. Yet I don't believe we'll ever be able to resolve the threat they represent within the political structure of this country.

Wow, a good ole fashioned western necktie party!
Actually, they aren't doing the counting, it's the auto format over there which does it. DU has a strange board and it takes awhile to get used to who's replying to whom.

What's really sad is there are so few over there who realize how moonbatty people like Skittles sound when she compares Bush to Hussein.
Even if everything she said about President Bush was accurate, there's no way our President is like Sadaam. After all, if it was true, she wouldn't be posting from her comfy home because she'd be tortured and either thrown in jail or killed.
Of course, their failure to realize that is what makes them DUmmies and moonbats.
Anyone else notice that despite constant leftist charges on his abuse in captivity, Saddam didn't look in bad shape? He looked more healthy than I do.
I am going to WalMart as soon as I get dressed for some. I used up what I had last year.
I am once again surprised by the news. I hope that word is spread far and wide.
Anyone watching Fox? Did Ellen Ratner change her hair? At first I thought it was some Asian lady.
That's just funny!
He wasn't only yelling at the judge, but also at what he called 'the invaders'! If this appeal against violence is true, its not what we heard from him in court.
Unfreaking believable!
I just heard a few mins ago, one of the fox and friends chicks, I think it was Elise Wheel (sp?) say "This verdict will definetly help the Republicans and George Bush going into this election, but I want people to look behind the headlines, for this will just cause even more violence in Iraq."
thats it! I am done with Faux News!
Time will tell...I've been a student of history a long time, and the vitriol in the polarization right now reminds me of some of the climate in the 1850s...
My thoughts exactly...except I don't think it's just her hair.
She's had some MAJOR work done. She's joined the 'Nancy Pelosi Plastic Surgery Club for Women." (As I'm sure she's counting on Nancy being the next Speaker).
So the nearly-dead Saddam was sentenced to death by hanging! What terrific news.
And I see the "secular" ruler was reading his Koran this morning. Oh - the leftists must HATE this.
I'll bet we'll be hearing a lot of garbage about why this is a destablizing thing from the moonbat side...
