Autumn Kitten
Mother had me just as the Hot Times were winding down
When the place to be is snuggled close atop the cool grassy ground
While Our Humans cooked their food over hot and smoky fires
Creating scents and sensations that left little to be desired
Flooding my taste buds while setting my whiskers all aflutter
With wafting scents of seared meat, fresh corn and sweet butter
Mother and I would watch patiently from our cozy seats
Aware that eventually we would savor some succulent treats
A situation for this Kitten that truly cannot be beat
When the weather Outside grew cooler and temperatures did fall
Our Humans moved their cooking through the door and down the hall
To the huge Kitchen with more shiny metal boxes than I can count
While nearby there's a wide and downy pillow that I can mount Cozily curled up and awash in aromas wondrous and warm
While thunder echoes far away telling me of a storm
A contented ball of fluff in colors black, white and orange
Which might be why Our Humans call me "Candy Corn"
