As the Republican base fragments and Christian conservatives consider a fast from politics, the polling data point to a mid-term Republican thumping. Less than two weeks from now, Republicans will begin their post-mortem soul searching. And as the corpses of their House and Senate majorities grow cold, so should Karl Roves 2006 campaign strategy.

So?
Us 'fundies' get abused by other FR friends when we get linked to Muslim's because THEY believe in C!
Go figger...
Buying time.
It's a military strategy; trade territory for time to build an effective counteroffensive.
Doubt not there are some real conservatives out there waiting to make their move in 2008. A "D" victory in 2006-- or the perception of such-- will render this effort, at best, much more difficult.
And that's all I'm gonna say about that.
No it doesn't. It takes ONE to threaten to kick your ass up one side, across the ceiling, and down the other wall.
If the person that said that has the means, motive, and publicly stated that, just turn around and don't pay them any attention.
First off, it makes them go away.
Seondly, it allows a dramatic effect when one turns back and asks them point blank WTF they want.
Thirdly, it allows one to make sure their gun is loaded prior to dealing with the bastard(s).
Remember the TarBaby!
You believe in reincarnation?
No I belive in Jesus though.
JimRob, you can make the same kind of back and forth arguments about guns. Firearms are the cornerstone of our liberty. But some people misuse them for crime. Because of that, does it mean that guns should be banned?
Science is like any other human endeavor. It can be used for good or bad. Some people mis-use evolution to justify genocidal actions. Some people have used religion in the past for the same. Does it mean that both are bad? No, it simply means that you have to look at the heart of each person to gauge their intent. Like anything else in life.
Me, I fight bad climate science all the time in places other than FR (and no, I don't anti-freep - I go to a few liberal boards and torment the enemy in his den). I actually don't agree with the basic mechanisms of Darwinian evolution, but the basic concept is correct.
If someone wishes to believe in creation theory as their faith, I'm fine with that. But when they turn around and absolutely mangle science to fabricate a scientific foundation for their beliefs, then I will call such fabrications when I see them.
Because at the end of the day, such folks are the same as the global warming alarmists. They start with a conclusion and force the facts to fit their theories. Which is the opposite of the scientific method. So both such parties are a problem - and both tend to be vicious towards the heretics who dare to confront them with inconvenient facts.
The state is a necessary evil, most useful and beneficial when it protects citizens from the predations of libertarians, communists, and other anarchists.
Puh-leeze. I've had plenty of humorous exchanges with the other side in evolution debates.
And some were even meant to be funny :^)
So far, unless your breathing is machine-assisted, 100% of mammals have died after taking their last breath. I know of no study or example showing otherwise,I know of no study or example showing otherwise, except for the Messiah and, well, he was special. This is basic stuff.

Oh and thank you for proving my point that there is life after death
John 14:19b Because I live, you also will live.
I would not lump in libertarians and communists. The two are polar opposites. And libertarians did not lead to the death of tens of millions of people last century. Pinkos did. A libertarian would never sanction the gulag.
The state is like any other human tool. When the state is used to first create rules for human contracts and then enforce them fairly, you get the most free society. When the state is used to force people towards equality, you end up with more repression. That is the irony of the nanny state.
Hong Kong had a pretty libertarian approach to government and it prospered as a result. The flip side is, the people of that state were of a disciplined and productive mindset. So libertarianism, IMO, is only truly effective in a population that is not prone to the libertine. It, like many other belief systems, has its points. But it cannot function effectively by itself (like many belief systems) - it needs to be coupled to something else (like Confucian discipline in the example of Hong Kong) to work in the real world.
The most dangerous people, after all, are those who refuse to let reality interact with their belief systems, such as Marxist liberals and Islamists.
This is what I am talking about.
Evolution is a scientific theory, never has been a religion, has never been used as a religion.
For some reason, creationists feel that evolution has to be a religion, in order for them to fight it.
Evolution is a scientific theory, nothing more, and you may claim that it is a religion all you like, but it will not make it the truth.
It might take a while to get used to Whitehead's phrasing, but with serious attempts to make meaning of his vocabulary and concepts it gets much easier since he is very consistent. Unfortunately, as his sentences become clearer, casual conversation with non-initiates becomes tedious.
WOW! Last evening this Thread was pulled.........

And Now.......
Fervor?
Trying to help you understand what science is, and what it is not, is fervor?
Trying to help you understand that science is not dangerous or has nothing to do with your religion is fervor?
To try and explain what it is and what it is not, because some of you really haven't a clue, is fervor?
Well, if fervor is what you believe, that's fine, but it is not a religious fervor, because if evolution were replaced with another theory tomorrow, it would not effect our lives in any way. Is that religious fervor? I don't think so.
see tag line and have a nice day
Begging the question.
