.....Some high level Democratic Party political insiders have shared with TWN details of a potential shift in vectors for several of the major political stars in that party. ........

The question is "why would the AP go after Dingy Harry?"

What would motivate the purveyors of crAP to eat on one of their own?

The answer is above. It was suggested that Dingy Harry step down. He resisted. The clintoon thug at the AP made them an offer they couldn't refuse.

Reid's whole family will be out of their jobs. They're all lobbyists, wife, kids, everyone! If he quits, they won't have anyone to lobby, poor darlings.

His three boys are *connected* lawyers making big deals and making big money in Nevada 'cause their daddy is Harry Reid

Limbaugh: Harry Reid Family Cashing In

When it comes to cashing in on family connections, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay's relatives can't hold a candle to the clan of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who's sponsored legislation that netted his family hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees.

So says top radio talker Rush Limbaugh, who first unearthed the dirty details on Reid's nepotism last week - a story that has the mainstream press feigning ignorance as they pull out all the stops to nail DeLay. In recent days, the top House Republican has been accused of having his family work on his campaigns - a charge that has Democrats clamoring for his scalp.

But there's been nary a peep of protest about a report that Reid's sons and son-in-law cashed in on Daddy's connections - a story first reported by the Los Angeles Times two years ago that was unearthed by Limbaugh last week.

"Dingy Harry, you are so smelly, Tom DeLay is like a rose compared to you," Limbaugh said Wednesday, while detailing the Times report.

It turns out that while more than a few congressional relatives derive financial benefit from their proximity to power, Harry Reid, the Times said, "is in a class by himself."

In the last four years alone, firms with Reid family ties have collected more than $2 million in lobbying fees.

"So pervasive are the ties among Reid, members of his family and Nevada's leading industries and institutions that it's difficult to find a significant field in which such a relationship does not exist," the paper said.

For instance, the Nevada Democrat once sponsored an environmental bill that he touted as a bipartisan measure to protect the ecosystem and help the economy in America's fastest-growing state.

But as the Times reported: "What Reid did not explain was that the bill promised a cavalcade of benefits to real estate developers, corporations and local institutions that were paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying fees to his sons' and son-in-law's firms, federal lobbyist reports show."

The Howard Hughes Corp. alone paid $300,000 to attorney and son-in-law Steven Barringer to push a provision allowing the company to acquire 998 acres of federal land near booming Las Vegas. According to the Times, other provisions of Reid's legislation were intended to benefit a real estate development headed by a senior partner in the Nevada law firm that employs all four of the Senate minority leader's sons.

Seldom have so many close relatives directly profited off their familial connection to a powerful politician.

But as the Times noted, there's more: "The governments of three of Nevada's biggest cities — Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson — also gained from the legislation, which freed up tens of thousands of acres of federal land for development and annexation. All three were represented by Reid's family members who contacted his staff on their clients' behalf."

Reid's response to the obvious conflicts of interest?

"Lots of people have children, wives and stuff that work back here," he insisted. "It is not as if a lot of cash is changing hands."

Hundreds of thousands of dollars - not a lot of cash?

One wonders how journalists would have reacted had Tom DeLay said that.

...the GOP leaders need to be trumpeting "Harry Reid should resign his position as leader until a full investigation into his inappropriate handling of land deals."

I wholeheartedly agree with that.

We need to use their high moral bar (asking Republicans to step down until wearing a mismatched pair of socks is completely investigated) on them.

If they think accusations are more important than facts of a case, let them invoke their own rules on themselves.

Get up and fight, GOP!

EXCERPT   Read the rest here (LA TIMES)

In Nevada, Reid Is the Name to Know
Members of one lawmaker's family represent nearly every major industry in
their home state. And their clients rely on his goodwill.

June 23, 2003

WASHINGTON - It was the kind of legislation that slips under the radar here.
The name alone made the eyes glaze over: "The Clark County Conservation of
Public Land and Natural Resources Act of 2002." In a welter of technical
jargon, it dealt with boundary shifts, land trades and other arcane
matters - all in Nevada.

FOR THE RECORD
Lobbyists - A graphic accompanying an article in Monday's Section A on
Nevada Sen. Harry Reid's lobbyist relatives incorrectly said that the
University of Nevada at Reno paid $10,000 a month to the Lionel Sawyer &
Collins law firm. In fact, the university paid the firm $40,000 in the last
half of 2002, according to federal lobbyist reports.
As he introduced it, Nevada's senior U.S. senator, Democrat Harry Reid,
assured colleagues that his bill was a bipartisan measure to protect the
environment and help the economy in America's fastest-growing state.

What Reid did not explain was that the bill promised a cavalcade of benefits
to real estate developers, corporations and local institutions that were
paying hundreds of thousands of dollars in lobbying fees to his sons' and
son-in-law's firms, federal lobbyist reports show.

The Howard Hughes Corp. alone paid $300,000 to the tiny Washington
consulting firm of son-in-law Steven Barringer to push a provision allowing
the company to acquire 998 acres of federal land ripe for development in the
exploding Las Vegas metropolitan area.

Barringer is listed in federal lobbyist reports as one of Hughes'
representatives on the measure that his father-in-law introduced.

Other provisions were intended to benefit a real estate development headed
by a senior partner in the Nevada law firm that employs all four of Reid's
sons - by moving the right-of-way for a federal power-transmission line off
his property and onto what had been protected federal wilderness.

The only reason the Reid story is getting any coverage at all is because someone high in the democrat party wants it covered. Someone's vying for Harry's position, he's resisting getting shoved aside, and this story is the result. The message to Reid is clear - step aside now and we'll make this go away. Keep fighting us, and it'll just get bigger and bigger.

The only question is who in the party is pushing this story. My money's on Howard Dean - he and Reid despise each other, and the moonbat wing of the party has no love for Harry either.

" Two sentences max. I watched...
Perfunctory "

Did you notice how fast Chip Reid rushed through the report ? He couldn't wait to finish the teeny, tiny mention of Reid . No details about the financial charade and no context about illegality or ethics violations.
Wonder if Chip is related to Harry ?

You are also correct about NBC's focus on the " scandal "- it was all Foley, Foley, Foley.
Apparently, someone told the panel today
that they felt Foley was " too chummy " with some pages.
After that devastating bombshell- I needed a few moments to gather myself and vowed to vote Democrat.

Did you hear Brian's (brief) report on the Dow Jones record close? I could have sworn he said it hit a new high of twelve "hundred", not thousand.

At least he didn't say, "despite the weakening economy".
