Bulletin -- Men Invented Humanity
The American Specator ^ | 10/10/06 | William Tucker

Posted on 10/11/2006 12:36:08 AM PDT by Tarnsman

Time magazine did one of those Evolution updates last week, "How We Became Human," on its cover. There wasn't too much new -- just how little we differ genetically from chimpanzees. Yet there was one sentence that stood out like a lightning bolt. It has enormous implications for understanding how human societies evolved and why they sometimes find it difficult to get along with each other. Here it is: The principle of gene-by-gene comparison [between species] remains a powerful one, and just a year ago geneticists got hold of a long-awaited tool for making those comparisons in bulk. Although the news was largely overshadowed by the impact of Hurricane Katrina... the publication of a rough draft of the chimp genome in the journal Nature immediately told scientists several important things. First they learned that overall, the sequences of base pairs that make up both species' [i.e., humans and chimps] genomes differ by 1.23% -- a ringing confirmation of the 1970 estimates -- and that the most striking divergence between them occurs, intriguingly, in the Y chromosome, present only in males. Did you see that? It deserves much more attention than Time was willing to give it. Basically, the point is that, in crossing the little evolutionary distance that exists between chimps and humans, most of the changes occurred in males. In other words, what differentiates us from our mammalian relatives is changes that have occurred in the male of the species.

You dismiss their conclusions just because they don't buy into a materialistic worldview.

No, I dismiss their conclusions because they are garbage. If they could get their science right, I would respect them. Yes, I am prejudiced; prejudiced towards accurate results in science. Anyone with an undergraduate science degree can see the gross mistakes they make left and right. Their reputation for being a group of straw-grasping hacks is well-earned.

There are good, hard working PhD scientists on their staff.

Few, if any, which are in the life sciences.

You dismiss their conclusions just because they don't buy into a materialistic worldview. Someday, set aside your prejudice, and read their work. You might be surprised.

We dismiss their conclusions because said conclusions are preordained. They start from the endpoint of Scripture and then cobble together disingenuous and specious arguments (none of which have passed scientific muster) to make their nonsense sound like`"science."

Scripture is fine in theological and/or philosophical discussions. Science demands much, much more.

They work very hard at quote-mining and distorting reputable scientists' findings to further their agenda.

How sad that you are so ill-informed. There is original research going on...active research side-by-side with non-creationist scientists. You might want to do some research yourself.

Oh darn, you beat me to it.

I think this falls under the classification of, "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing."

Thanks for the ping. It seems the evolving male becomes more goal oriented--inventive beyond the needs of one's troop. This seems to connect with changes to the brain function.

I'm thinking on the subject of the human brain's capacity to think. It takes the most energy and is so vital to the physical, mental health of the individual. The brain has invented things impossible centuries ago. But it's strength seems to be its greatest weakness as the brain will become neurotic, superstitious, hysterical, and even cause death to an individual that by all outward appearances seems healthy.

Do you have any studies on this subject of brain evolution as it pertains powerful delusions that make the man stronger than normal or to the brain's evolution as it pertains to religion? If so, please forward or FReepmail me with one or two.

The real changes are on the other side of the world, however, where Muslim societies have regressed to polygamy, a form of marriages that was not present in the earliest stages of human evolutionary history. This has led to a re-creation of the "bachelor herd" -- a disgruntled population of excess males, which Islam has always handled very skillfully by turning it into an army of jihad warriors.

An unusually frank statement.

Maybe more of the changes are in male haracteristics. Does that imply that the male had something to do with it? Could be the female made the critical decisions if there were critical decisions.
