It seems quite a few FReeprs thinks this means all teachers must be armed.
-----------
If a teacher has obtained, on their own, a CCW permit, there is no reason they should not be allowed to do so in class.
When I was in high school, the parking lot was filled with pickup trucks with guns in in the racks, and I doubt seriously any of them were 'registered'.
Funny....I don't remember a single case of a school shooting back then.
I'm a veteran teacher in an inner city school. We used to be a lot more violent than we are now. A couple of years ago, based on a student population of about 1800 we had over seven THOUSAND outdoor suspensions in a single school year and it was probably the same 100 kids. Besides a couple of the sergeants over in JROTC...I'm the only person in this school qualified enough to be armed. The kids know it too. So if an announcement were made that certain unnamed staff members were armed in case of emergency that would be a no brainer for this student body.
Most teachers are liberal democrats. Even the Republican's tend to be moderates or only fiscal types. Most are antigun as well. It's not a good situation and this is true across the nation. Texas, too. lol
The only answer is to recruit future teachers from the ranks of combat experienced returning veterans. Recruiting teachers from the folks who are combat experienced SEALs, Rangers, or Marines is an ideal scenario. They know what to do. They know how to do the job and they've done it before and likely in an urbanized environment. They understand picking a specific target and they know fire discipline. They won't dawldle around outside a school waiting to see what the entire situation seems to be (Columbine). They will move to contact and ummmm solve the problem.
I just looked into it a little further and the Revised Code of Washington states that if you are convicted of carrying a firearm onto school grounds you will lose your CCW permit for three years. Also, anyone between the ages of 12 and 21 caught carrying a firearm onto school grounds SHALL be held in confinement in juvie or adult jail for 72 hours, and SHALL NOT be released until examined by a "mental health professional". The libs believe that if you have a firearm and bring it onto school grounds you must be a loon.
It should be mandatory, not just allowed.
Should schoolteachers be armed and ready?
This ping list is for the "other" articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. If you want on/off this list, please freepmail me. The main Homeschool Ping List by DaveLoneRanger handles the homeschool-specific articles.
The teacher who raped a student in a previous posting would have liked this.
Oh, I LOVE your shirt. Where did you get it??? Must have one for the next 4th of July parade and target practice.
Damm if the light bulb didn't just turn on! Excellent observation.

Blanket statements as such should always have some kind of verification attached to them. Otherwise it's just a blanket statement that makes no sense. You can speak for your situation but not for others.
Should schools allow teachers, principals, administrators and other school personnel to carry concealed weapons?

You're a teacher? I hope you're being sarcastic. I carry a gun when I'm not at work as a teacher in an inner city senior high. When I carry I am extremely aware of my responsibilities to society to safely handle the firearm and use it only in the most dire of life threatening situations. Consequently, I am extra careful to neither give nor take offense at anything. I'm ultra courteous.
When I work, I'm sometimes irritated by the kids, but never truly angry. It would never occur to me to become physically violent with a student except in self defense. I have done this a number of times. Aikido is a wonderful martial art! In the classroom I'm extremely aware of my responsibilities and duties. Any teacher who is at risk of harming a student in an offensive manner which is to say by initiating violence shouldn't be teaching.

Works for Israel. They haven't lost any kids in schools since the '70's.
"I think my situation is indicative of the majority of urban schools. "
That's just it, you think, you don't know. My experience has been just the opposite. The libby contact has been minimal.
no..armed security guards is enough...the the positive side arming teachers would cause a lot of NEA leftists teachers to quit
Aren't those checks mandatory for teachers already?
