I find that pretty odd, along with the time questions you raised. Reading through the IMs quickly though, I'm not sure that Foley looked to conceal his identity. And that too is odd given internet opportunities for anonymous cheap thrills.

Well, I'm not sure about Florida laws, but most states require 90 days before a special election can be held, from the time the governor calls for one.

I don't think there's time for all that.

I think what's actually going to happen is that the Florida GOP, or the Republican group in that district will name some sacrificial lamb to take Foley's place. Then they'll just walk away and let two years go by and run a real candidate in the next election.

Foley shouldn't have resigned -- terrible move. They're coughing up stuff from '03 just prior to his '06 reelection bid? Why didn't they use the material just prior to the '04 election? Oh yeah, that's right, Foley wasn't up for reelection that election cycle.

You do know that Representatives of Congress are up for election every two years, don'tcha? Foley was first elected in 1994 and has been re-elected every two years since.
