Well, we are half way there! Now the legislation needs to pass the Senate. This will be more difficult to do, so we continue to need all of the support we can get. The roll call is in from the House and its not good news for the ACLU! The bill, H.R. 2679, would deny legal fees and out-of-pocket expenses to be taken from taxpayers and given put into the pockets of groups like the ACLU when they successfully sue against references to God and religion in public settings, has passed by a vote of 244-173! This is good news, but it isn't the end of the battle. The legislation still needs to pass the Senate and for that to happen we will need all the support we can get. Keep contacting your Senators and let them know you support it!
Americans United for Seperation of Church and State are quite upset!
The Rev. Barry W. Lynn, executive director of Americans United, said the House leadership is obsessed with playing to powerful Religious Right lobbying groups that have been pressing for the legislation.

"What's to stop a Dim Congress from writing laws explicitly punishing conservative groups?"
When did they ever stop?
Well thanks! I don't get many "stand up and cheer" moments, even at FR, even in a good week. But this news does it for me! :)
BTTT!
Thanks for posting this. I am really cheering for this bill!
More empirical evidence there are good things happening in American culture, even though it's hard to see sometimes.
Sancho.

Thank you Lord! Now, if the Senate only has half that sense.
All it would do is withdraw your and my tax dollars from funding an anti-american group. It's a way of defunding the left, who live on our tax dollars.
Save for the address.
They already have. It's called "hate crimes" legislation.
ACLU has been using legal extortion, has supported pedophiles, and has gone groups such as NHS who dare to emphasize good character. They actually got the NHS to cave in at least twice.
What are you smoking? You do realize, don't you, that all this bill does is slow the flow of tax dollars to this organization. The bill isn't "anti" anything. You sound like one of those people who wonders how the government "is going to pay for tax cuts".
In case someone has not already asked, why does the House have to pass legislation to ensure what is already guaranteed by our Constitution?
Perhaps you are right technically, but look at what aspiring citizens of this land face:
"A person cannot become a citizen who, at any time during a period of ten years just before he or she files an application for naturalization, has been a member of or connected with the Communist Party or a similar party within or outside the United States; or a member of, or connected with any other government, other party or organization that is against all organized government or for world communism, dictatorship in the United States, overthrowing the United States Government by force, injuring or killing officers of the United States, or sabotage."
IMO we need to be more specific and forceful in what it means to be an American. It certainly does not mean proscribing religious expression, which is the apparent aim of the ACLU.
Why should taxpayers fund this or any other similar group?
You mean my money has been going to those commies!!!!/sarc
