The Free Republic keyword feature serves a valuable purpose, it alerts posters to topics that they are interested in and supplements those topics which aren't already listed as available topics.
1. Please do not add words like "and" and "the" to the keywords. And PLEASE do not add every word from your title to the keywords, that's just plain annoying.
2. Please do not use keywords to troll posters. The mods can see who adds keywords and you're only going to get yourself in trouble.
3. Please do not add keywords to bump old theads. The purpose of keywords is to alert posters to current threads about the topic they're interested in. Adding a keyword to a thread from 2003 defeats that purpose.
4. Keywords on troll threads are exempt unless they contain profanity or an obscenity.
5.We are aware of several posters who abuse the keyword feature and we would appreciate it if they would stop.
Thanks.
LOL. It can be funny at times, but yes, it's mostly annoying. :)
There have been a few times when I joined in to load the keyword feature of certain threads. I guess it's not something we should be doing, but there are times when a Clinton thread comes along and it's hard to take a pass once the chum is in the water.
Now, let's see who ventures to add keywords to this thread!
I guess I need to learn how to use that feature. Hydroshock used to complain about people loading it. I don't get it. I've never used it although I use the serch feature often.
I picked a random keyword
blows
Here are the results

Now, is that a useful keyword?
Just for clarification, are "hatewhenthathappens" and "yoots" acceptable?
LOL.. I suppose it could be to certain uh, people, like... saxophonists.
I saw an example of this the the other day that had EVERY word in the title, (and it was a LONG title) in the keywords. Those are the ones that make me laugh. But the really annoying ones (to me, so this means every thread I post will have this) are the ones where they say things like "ALREADYPOSTEDMORON" and "CANTYOUREAD" and "CANTUSESEARCHFUNCTION", "SAMEOLD(insert FReeper name)CRUD", etc.
...I see "and" and "the" on there already.
Think about it. How many other articles are likely to have those keywords?
The original purpose of keywords was to allow anyone to search for articles that had those keywords. If everyone adds keywords that are only meaningful to them, that's not helpful to the next guy.
Other than no profanity or personal attacks, ther are no real 'acceptable' keywords. Use words that you think might be helpful in finding the article by someone doing a search on an appropriate keyword
It's likely someone's idea of humor.
I cannot tell a lie. The cat did it.
Hmm, I wasn't aware that adding a keyword bumped a thread.
There's an eclectic collection of keywords on this thread, for a recent one.

I put "HARUMPH" ... Am I still logged in?
I wasn't either..... thanks!
This one might be the mother of all keyword abuse threads:
