I think "I am David" is the name of the one I'm thinking of. It's about a young man who escapes from a communist labor camp.

It's like separating wheat from chaff.

When a movie comes highly recommended by people I trust I watch when it comes out on HBO...

Don't waste my time with most of it.

Not parting with my hard earned bucks to support a bunch of narcissistic air heads.

It's a Kiwi thing (the movie, that is). It's a true story about a New Zealander who takes his old Indian to Bonneville.

The movie was produced by Kiwis, too.

Wow. I don't even remember what movies that I've seen this year. Unlike most years, I don't think that most of them had the word "Disney" or "Nickelodeon" in the title.

Absolutely Connie
What are they doing in the class room that requires that homework time. I have no trouble with review of the lessons of the day but it's so beyond that. It makes my daughter, who is an excellent student, negative. What good is that going to do?

Here's a list of the IMDB's Top 100 movies of 2006 (by votes)

Looking at them, I've seen:
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (2006) 7.3/10
Cars (2006) 7.7/10 (12525 votes)
Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) 6.9/10 (12142 votes)
World Trade Center (2006) 7.0/10 (5615 votes)
Illusionist, The (2006) 7.7/10 (3962 votes)

Hmmm, not much of a list. I'm sure I've seen something else, but I don't remember. (And some on the list are foreign or TV movies, so things might've been pushed off.)

Of those, I liked "Cars" and "Pirates" (although it wasn't as good as the first one). "The Illusionist" was okay, saw it for free, except for the munchies, and it's worth a rental, and Ice Age 2 was just stupid.

"World Trade Center" is in a totally separate category.
