Ann Richards was governor of Texas January 15, 1991-January 17, 1995 and George, Jr. was governor January 17, 1995-December 21, 2000.
I wasn't amused with the silver foot line either, but I have to now admit that it really was a great line. Things change as we look in retrospect.
This might not relate at all, but perhaps it explains. Willie McCovey spent years for the San Francisco Giants just killing the Dodgers. We hated him. I was at Dodger stadium for the last game of the year, and it happened to be McCovey's last game. His last at bat was a sacrifice fly. After the play, the crowd that had booed him and hated him for years gave him a 15-minute standing ovation.
Her comment about the silver foot was about our current president's daddy, George, Sr. It was said during the 1992 presidential campaign at the democratic national convention and not the governors race, where George, Jr. beat her out.
I caught my mistake after I posted, but didn't come back to this thread and change it.
You are exactly right!!!!
And furthermore, Texans are a polite society, as is the South in general, and I think her Silverspoon comment embarrased most of us voters at the time, especially when it got continuos airtime on the MSM. Then there was that Lottery thing, her smoke and mirror thing. No, she was just another politician, just more smart-mouthed than most.

It is sad when anybody dies from cancer -- even a political opponent that stoops to the lowest and most despicable dirty gutter politics. While I detested most of what she stood for, I am still sad for her family for their loss. Condolences and prayers for them.
Ann was a one term wonder who got there primarily due to a dramatic stumble and verbal gaffe made by her opponent. He was on horseback and made the comment that when rape is inevitable, the best thing to do is to lie back and enjoy it... That had the effect of shooting himself in the foot .... on full auto .... and he was a goner.
Ann's term in office was marked by one good reform: She did open the Texas Rangers to minority and women. THat's a good thing, IMHO.
But she will be forever remembered for her tireless opposition to the 2nd Amendment and her continuous veto of numerous CCW Bills. When GW ran, arguably, he won on that issue alone.
Sad to hear this. I didn't always agree with her, but she was a true "broad." Tough, smart, and feisty.
RIP, Governor Richards.
So sad, Prayers to her family. She was one GREAT Texan, and I loved her sense of humor, even disagreeing with her, she made me smile.
God Bless and Keep you Ann!

Unless you have some really despicable person such as Bin Laden -- it does no good to carry on about such things as differences in political ideology or whether or not that person did or did not do something that ultimately led to that person's demise. The high road would be to forget about those differences or why or how the person died, and just wish condolences for the family, say a prayer if one is so inclined or something like "rest in peace."
Bella was a true New Yorker, and Ann was a true Texan - so far apart, yet they possessed a lot of similarities.
Both flamboyant, sometimes outrageous, and I disagreed totally with their politics, but they sure were fun to watch.
Dear Ma, may the angels lead you into Paradise.
I see that's how it is being used, but I always remembered it from long ago as someone from Alabama who said it as a derogatory accusation to his fellow Dems, when he wanted to break from the ranks and support a Pubbie.
He accused them of it - and we who were Pubbies had championed his cause (this was long before my time that it actually happened), by considering it a derogatory term. Those who actually are that type of Dem seem to think it's a compliment - maybe like broken glass Republicans.
I have crawled over broken glass to vote, symbolically speaking, but not just because I was going to vote straight-ticket Republican. It was just because I was going to vote, period.
I liked her! She was quite a character.
WAS THIS THE SAME PERSON WHO SHAMED A SITTING PRESIDENT SAYING " GOERGE BUSH WAS BORN WITH A SILVER FOOT IN HIS MOUTH " I'M SORRY, BUT I AM NOT IN MORNING. PEOPLE WHO PROMOTE HATE SHOULD NOT BE CANNIZED AS SAINTS.
just my opinion.
Thanks for the date correction. I know they aren't Sr. and Jr., but with both being named George I used that to help explain who I was talking about.
