El Nino often means a warm dry winter w/o much snow in the Rockies...sigh. We've had a lot of rain this summer, and I know you guys in Texas need it. We visited Granbury this summer and it was awful dry.

Guess what. I have a circa 1880 Atlas. It shows these hot patches in the Pacific and in glorious color. They're always giving us the impression that this is something new....like hurricanes in Florida. Same thing, different year.

Any idea if there will be more snow in California or Oregon instead in an El Nino year?

Anyone?

You're probably going to see less rain than you did last winter. I'm guessing that's what you wanted to hear, right?

Katy, bar the door! Hate to change the subject but, this is exactly my problem with the TTC, More people and not enough sources of water.

That's exactly our problem in southeast Idaho. The water rights are well defined and the resources are quite limited. Lots of open land, but insufficient water to even contemplate any development.

YAY!! Oh. Wait. I'm not supposed to be excited about this? I live in Arizona so like the wet weather we get from this. I just don't like the heat the summer after.

Suddenly el nino appeared all over the news today. The puppet masters evidently need to cover up the pause in the decline of the price of oil.

I can deal with El Niño coming back.

I just can't handle El Reño, the former Attorney General who covered up multiply crimes by the Clinton gang.

If she ever tries to return to public office, she will face the same "angry" Floridians (like me) who despise her corrupt legacy.

All I can picture is Chris Farley in his "Spanish for, The Nino" outfit. Classic.

Also, Chilis makes a delicious El Nino that knocks me on my butt.

Australia has been reporting this for some time. Why has it taken so long for these guys to report it? [Doc Frank with Chris started talking about El Nino effect then]

That doesn't stop the damn developers and the politicians in their pockets one iota in Texas. It seems their all fixated on this major growth that's going to take place in the next 20 or 30 yrs and they want to make sure there is plenty of infrastructure in place to handle it. Throughout the history of Texas, as in other spots across the US, water has been more precious than gold or oil. Without viable sources of water, their dreams of grandeur are all washed up or in this case.......dried up!

Actually, I think El Nino brings lots of rain & snow to Ca and Oregon, and out here in the Rockies.

I was thinking they said La Nina, which brings a dryer winter out west, but a wetter monsoon in the summer.

But then, I actually read the article more carefully (sheesh), I saw that it said El Nino.

Yipee as more snow = good skiing.

Never really been all that much of a fan of El Nino. It seems like it brings out the really freaky weather everywhere. If I recall correctly, here in Michigan we get something akin to a snowstorm or two around Thanksgiving, and then dropped into the deep freezer for two months solid. Forget anything about a traditional white Christmas. It doesn't snow much when the high temp is 5-10 Deg. for two months solid.

Then there's a brief respite for the January thaw, and then we get rained on until spring. Then we'll get clobbered with a couple of late snow storms in spring.

All the developers see in $$$. They don't consider whether their development exceeds the available water, sewer and power resources. The local politicians here have decided that new developments will have to pay their way when the force another grand expansion of local utility infrastructure. A new water and sewer connection will be assessed an impact fee of $4,000. The prior fee had been $300 until the current system was filled to capacity. Additional housing is going to require some major expansions and upgrades. When the developers have to pay for their impacts, their profit margin drops and many decide not to build.

California implemented the Mello-Roos taxes in many new developments to assess those new homeowners for the cost of the infrastructure that serves them instead of screwing all the existing customer base connected to a different system.

I don't have any idea what it does to the weather around me.

It seems that we always get summer, fall, winter and spring regardless ...
