"Cyprus Says Detained Ship Carrying Air Defence Radars to Syria"
By VOA News
11 September 2006
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Authorities in Cyprus say they found what appears to be military radar equipment on a Syria-bound cargo ship detained on suspicion of arms smuggling.
Police in Cyprus say the Gregorio 1 was carrying 18 trucks fitted with mobile radar they believe are part of an air defense system. The equipment was loaded in North Korea and was on its way to the Syrian port of Latakia.
Cypriot police say they received a tip from the international police agency Interpol of possible arms smuggling. The ship's manifest said the cargo was weather-tracking equipment.
The justice minister of Cyprus, Sophocles Sophocleous, says the matter has been turned over to the foreign ministry.
Syria has asked for the cargo to be released.
Western nations believe Syria has funneled weapons to the Shi'ite militia Hezbollah in Leb"
This is why FR rocks. You get breaking news long before the news channels.
ALERY --- LOL --- sometimes my typos even amuse me.
That sounds like the Syrians are in our corner on this one. If so, they get kudos from me.

That's right, FRiend. We've been first several times, on a variety of issues over the years.
Keith Olbermann reports that this is 100% Bush's fault.
I wonder if he's related to Johnny Johnson or Jimmy James?
But does this action increase or reduce the threat to our embassy personnel?
FR does seem to be ahead of the BBC consistently. However, official news sources are supposed to determine that their reports are factual.
CNN: Embassy guard tells news agency the "embassy is under attack."
British ambassador says he heard gunfire as little as 15 minutes ago.
Black smoke seen rising. I' take a wild guess and say fuel burning. Maybe a car-bomb or other explosions has ignited fuel in parked cars? Just guessing.
I heard that the fires were started by illegal Mexicans.
It's on BBC World Service right now.
They just repeated all we know so far.
Switched to a correspondent in Beirut.
He repeated the same info.
Syrian security services have sealed off the area.

Really! Still nothing on CNN! I still believe CNN beats anyone on breakijng news but--- maybe I'll have to revise that view.
