An enraged Connecticut lawyer leaped through the window of the house next door and plunged a knife into his neighbor's chest a dozen times - after being told the man had molested his 2-year-old daughter, police said yesterday. Patent-law attorney Jonathon Edington, 29, turned vigilante after receiving a phone call Monday evening from his wife - who was away on vacation with their daughter - telling him that the neighbor, Barry James, 58, had been sexually abusing the little girl.
That prompted the seemingly mild-mannered Edington to storm over to James' house in the quiet suburban neighborhood, jump through a kitchen window and stab him, said Capt. Gary MacNamara of the Fairfield, Conn., police. The victim's elderly parents looked on in horror.
When Edington returned to his house, James' 87-year-old mother called police. Officers found the lawyer in his kitchen trying to wash blood off his hands and the murder weapon lying on the counter, MacNamara said.
Edington was arrested without incident and was charged Tuesday with murder and burglary.
His lawyer said his client simply lost it after being told his daughter had been sexually assaulted.
"The daughter gave the mother information which was alarming and disturbing. The mom relayed it to her husband. That was the spark," attorney Mickey Sherman said.
He would not say when the alleged molestation occurred.
MacNamara said police have no evidence that such an assault took place but were investigating.

How did the next door neighbor get a chance to molest a 2 year old? That one would think would be with it's mother nearly all the time
France has, or had, a law excusing crimes of passion. Surely this would count....
Good luck finding a jury to convict him unless its a jury of 12 NAMBLA members.
This was in the paper a few days ago. WE all could learn from this one.

That's if the guy was even guilty of molestation. Dennis raises a good point in post 2--how did he have access to a two-year-old? Unless the parents are seriously whacked, they wouldn't have had the guy babysitting--he's described in the article as an obscenity-spouting alcoholic who liked to parade around in the nude. Unless there's a lot more than we're told in the article, it sounds like the husband acted in way too much haste.
Maybe some other person baby sitting was not clued in to the nefarious neighbor, who kindly offered to watch while baby sitter went off to a movie or whatever.
He'd be much better off with a Texas jury.
Connecticut will probably throw a "hate crime" charge on top of it all.
If lawyers don't believe in the rule of law, who else should?
And chefs feed us from unsanitary kitchens, doesn't stop us from dining out. Good point!
He had just been informed his neighbor was somehow sexually involved with his 2 year old.
He went straight home and attacked and killed his neighbor.

Most men fear this scenario as unimaginable and state it often. The wife must have known this was going to trigger a response.
Did she kill two birds with one stone?
If she did, she'll do hard time. Until then, I don't even want to think about it. Betrayed by one's wife is one thing -- but that would be just too, too cold.
Bump for Caipirabob's comment. We just don't know anything like enough about this case yet.
There will be trial, just not the one that should have been.
Not only was she molested, she also gets to grow up in a single parent home. Nice move chief. Who's going to protect her for the next 16 years? She'll probably get molested by one of the men that her 'soon to be single' mom brings home.
