Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.

Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:

A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.

If light was an issue, then they would have seen the difference even easier?

FOX now saying winds were not an issue and weather was probably not an issue.

At that time, lighting shouldn't have been a great issue.

Sunday worshipers offer they prayers for victims, families
By Mary Meehan
HERALD-LEADER STAFF WRITER
Brenda Ledford prayed before she got to church after hearing the news about the plane crash at Blue Grass Airport in her car on the way to Mass.

She prayed, she said, “for their souls and for the family to endure this tragedy.”

The news of the crash came just as Sunday worshippers were heading to church. At services all around the Bluegrass, people took a minute to pray.

The Rev. Chuck Niehaus of St. Paul Catholic Church in downtown Lexington, which Ledford attends, said he lives near Blue Grass Airport and heard the emergency vehicles heading toward the crash site. He opened Mass with a prayer for those involved and wondered later whether he might know any of the victims. Within his congregation are a Delta pilot and flight attendant, who weren’t on the plane.

“It’s a very fragile life,” he said.

The Rev. Harry Daniel, interim pastor at Second Presbyterian Church, said the scope of the tragedy means many throughout Lexington will be mourning the loss of someone they know. Faith, he said, is crucial when facing a tragedy such as a plane crash because it defies easy explanation.

He asked the congregation to pray for the families of those affected and for the ability to find a loving way to come to their aid.

Prayer might be the only tool when facing such a great loss, he said. “It is a great resource.”

And probably way too many poor SOB's that have to fly for business on weekends - Not like it used to be when you flew on company time.

What is the significance of the "tail number" of the plane, and why would they not release that info?

MSNBC reported that among the passengers was a married couple, who just got married yesterday, and were on their way to their honeymoon. Prayers out to all surviving family members.

Having some experience at this, you will ALWAYS have someone complaining about the family response...

It is FAR BETTER today than it used to be, mainly because of situations following the USAir/Pittsburgh, and TWA 800 debacles...

I am following the story later...now they are saying nothing about the cause of this crash which makes me suspicious.

Obviously, I was merely posting my wild, speculative guess when I read above that the site is .25 miles from the departure end of RW 8. Didn't think I needed a /speculation tag in such context, or that anyone would mistake my one liner for a final NTSB report. Now I see someone saying 1 mile, so maybe that increases the odds of other possibilities, but using 8 sure is consistent with a crash shortly after the end of the RW and more likely than a radical turn to the right just past the RW. And, yes, I am a pilot.

I am a pilot. He GOOFED.

If the plane is tail toward the airport, then he didn't have time to turn around and head back.

Now....from your pilot's view point. Where did he start to take off?

From the intersection of the two runways, or did he go to the very end of the shorter RW and take advantage of the full length.

If he was let's hurry up and beat the traffic to Atlanta....then could he have started from the intersection?
