Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Harold Ford Jr. is virtually tied with Republican opponent Bob Corker, according to internal poll results released by the Ford campaign.
Rep. Ford, a U.S. congressman from Memphis, leads the former Chattanooga mayor 44 percent to 42 percent in the poll of 1,118 likely Tennessee voters. Thirteen percent of respondents were undecided in the head-to-head matchup.
The poll was taken Aug. 10-15 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.93 percent.
Ford campaign senior adviser Michael Powell said during a Tuesday morning conference call that Mr. Corker was hurt during the fierce Republican primary, noting Tennessee Right to Life is not backing the former mayor and that some conservative groups have yet to say whether they will endorse him in the Nov. 7 general election.

Consider the source. If they were not in le lead you'd never hear a peep........
I think there'll be a lot of nail biters this election day. Very healthy and should be fun.
Quote: "Now remember this is an internal poll, internal polls usually are very biased toward the candidate taking them. However, Ford has been closing the lead even in reliable polls like Rasmussen."
Now remember, this is an August poll one that polls primarily democrat voters. Ford is toast in Tenn.
I think that Ford makes a more attractive candidate than Gore. He appears to be a lot more moderate. He's intelligent and well spoken. I hope that he is defeated here. I believe he could become a danger to Republicans some day. He has presidential ambitions. But he should get married to get to the WH.
Corker wins by ten.
No, I'm not in TN. I used to hear him a lot on Imus who gave him a lot of air time to talk. He really sounds quite reasonable. But you are correct. His family--father and uncle I believe--have serious ethical problems. But I don't think any of it has touched Harold Ford--at least that I know of.
If Ford wins TN, the Senate will most likely flip.
Ford is themost dangerous kind of candidate, the kind that will do anything to win and is a virtuoso in politicking. He is very much in the vein of Lyndon Johnson and Bill Clinton in that he will outcampaign his opponent and do anything it takes and be ruthlessly savvy. Ignore him at your peril.
Baloney. He is a liberal candidate that is a virtual creation of Chris Matthews and Don Imus and the MSM. His base is the African-American community in Memphis and his family name stands for craziness and corruption. He will get very little support in East Tennessee and less than he should as a Democrat in Middle-Tennessee.
If Corker were behind he would be campaigning like it, he isn't. In fact it is Ford who is running like he is behind, and behind a lot.
I just wish the Republicans were as good as he is at making people believe that he is on their sides on the issues (gas prices, illegal immigration, etc..)
With in margin of error and in August?
Corker has no chance/sarcasm
Even if Corker is as untrustworthy as you say, Tennessee Right to Life should certainly endorse him over Harold Ford, Jr.
Agreed. I'm from TN living in FL.
I've got family there that are very liberal democrat.
They're not voting for him solely because he's black.
The libs are the ultimate racists.
That's why there was no white democrat running against him in the primary.
The white democrat liberals want him out of congress so they encouraged him to run for the senate which they knew would be a losing proposition.
Hoo-boy, looks like Corker is fading away. By my count, this puts the Dems in control of the Senate in November. Guess we'd better start practicing saying "Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid."
