McCain Signals Distance From Bush, Neocons
NY Sun ^ | 23 aug 06 | JOSH GERSTEIN

Posted on 08/23/2006 10:52:05 AM PDT by white trash redneck

Senator McCain's unusually blunt attack on the Bush administration yesterday, including a claim that President Bush and other top officials led Americans to believe that the Iraq war would be "some kind of day at the beach," is fueling suspicions that the Arizona senator and potential 2008 presidential candidate is seeking to straddle rival foreign policy camps in the Republican Party.

It's not the distance he's put between himself and Bush that he should worry about. It's the distance that he's placed between himself and the rest of us here on planet Earth.

It'll be a cold day in that place before I vote for McCain, the way he's talking right now.

I guess he's assuming that no one will be as strong as he is on the GOP side with Bush out of the presidential running. He's also assuming that his base is 'in the bag' for his front-runner position, if he's trotting out this tired old mare for show.

He is and will be just as liberal as Bush.

Liberaler. And full of himself. Argh.

"am thoroughly frustrated by his incompetent handling of the GWOT"

In what way? Two countries conquered (call it what you will) 50 million freed, 10s of thousands terrorists removed from the planet. Lay out the incompetence because I don't see it. Are you saying Bush hasn't done enough? What do you understand the GWOT to be?

Too familiar. Normally, however, McClones didn't register in '98.

Must be a sleeper.

CERTAINLY takes us for stupid, forgetful, or both.

OK, and how many car fatalities in one year happen here in the U.S.?

I don't know but I heard a lot in Montana, because you don't have speed limits on some stretches.

No real Republican cares what John McCain thinks, says or does. He is irrelevant. He won't get the GOP presidential nomination.

Actually the "safe and prudent" policy lasted a year. The myth "there's no speed limit" was just that, a myth. There was a speed limit, you just didn't know what that was.

Ironically, the fatality rate went down that particular year, and went back up once the speed limit was reinstituted statewide, and hasn't gone down, rather, it's pretty much gone back up to where it was before the "safe and prudent" policy was enforced.

Since McPain wants to keep shooting his mouth off, why doesn't Tony Snow put him down during the daily press conference? Are we afraid to hurt Johnny's feelings?

To be quite honest, not alot when you consider the population of Montana (less than the city of Denver itself) is just over 900,000. The average rate of highway related fatalities statewide is roughly 230 +/-.

I'd jump in here and take BSF to the woodshed, but a T-storm is forcing me to shut down for a while.

Pfft! Shut down that computer and come get some!

What does that have to do with the price of bread, considering that approximately 200 million Americans drive automobiles each day

I dunno. You tell me. Frankly, I'm not interested in playing dodgeball. Either answer my question or just admit you have no clue.

South Carolina had closed primaries for over a century, but the race pimps decided they were somehow "racist." So we switched to open primaries a couple of decades ago. Now leftists are screaming the open ones are "racist."

I know he plays with the libs but he also will need to portray himself as a conservative to have any chance in the primaries in 2008.

He will say and has said not enough troops were sent in and that's how Bush, Rumsfeld, etc. messed it up.

McCain will have to play both ways and his rhetoric will have a "tough" side to it as well.
