The D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com invites all those who support our troops and their mission fighting the war on terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere at home and abroad to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 23, 2006, from noon to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW.
With the media, liberal politicians and leftist-led so-called antiwar protesters doing everything they can to bring about America's defeat, it is imperative that those of us who love this country do everything in our power to ensure America's victory and her survival as a free republic.
Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was in Iraq last week trying to assure the troops that they still have the support of the American people. The troops are aware of what happened during Vietnam and they are concerned the country will do the same to them. All they see in the news overseas is antiwar protests because our side doesn't turn out in sufficient numbers when when pro-mission rallies are held.
We are hoping to change this for once by giving folks five weeks notice to plan accordingly. Everyone has their excuses as to why they can't take a day off from their busy lives to send a public message of support for our troops and their mission. Well, after five years of hearing those excuses and with the fate of the nation in the balance, I think it's time to bag the excuses and take a day off and devote it coming to Washington to send a message of support not just to the troops, but to their Commander-in-Chief, the nation and the world.
Also, by turning out you will send a strong message to our enemies abroad and at home that we have not lost our will and that we will not be defeated in Iraq, Afghanistan or anywhere.
Please make the commitment to attend and help spread the word about the rally to your families, friends and co-workers.
As we have done in the past with these rallies, the members of the D.C. Chapter will be digging in to their own pockets to put the rally on, but we could use help. If you'd like to contribute, please click here. We'd like to be able to promote the rally with 10 second radio ads in the D.C. area to help get the word out beyond the Internet. We will also be reaching out to other groups like we did with last September's rally.
I want to thank all our FRiends who have joined and helped us in the past. We hope you'll be able to join us again next month.
Details as to speakers and other events associated with the rally will be announced over the coming weeks.
Hope it is very successful. I sure do wish I didn't live half way across the country!
Yeah, I know. But I know you'll be with us in spirit, right?
PING-A-LING
You betcha I will. And I will want to see an after-action report, too! :D
Don't hold your breath waiting for one from me.
I'm going to be totally spaced and won't remember a thing! LOL
We'll have to rely on the "oldies" and experienced to give the report. Help me to remember what happened. LOL
Oh, I am sure that Kristinn will do one...just make sure I am on the ping list! I wouldn't be able to either. I would be floating from being so pumped up!
I'm gonna look into it!!
You're being added to the DC ping list.
I agree with the suggestion that Greenbelt is the best Metro station choice for people coming from PA/NJ/NY via Baltimore.
If coming from central or west PA via Frederick, MD, Shady Grove or Rockville Metro stations would be best.
From Western VA or most of WV, Vienna Metro station is best.
From central or southern VA, Franconia-Springfield Metro is a good choice, whereas Mt. Vernon or other east VA residents may consider Huntington Metro.
New Carollton, Largo, and Branch Ave Metro Stations are possible choices if coming from MD south of Baltimore.
Here is the Metro map: http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm
Since Kristinn is unavailable, and would never toot his own horn, I would like to inform you that at our meeting, he did indeed point out the fact that this rally does coincide with FR's anniversary. ;*)
I certainly hope you and Sheila will be able to attend. If I know you're coming, I'll bake you a cake in honor of your baby's 10th birthday.
Glad to hear you are still planning a September visit. ;*)
And I you my FRiend. Let me know if I can help in any way.
Beachie! So happy you're going! Can't wait for your report!!
;^)
Just a heads up, but I, along with Mr. Slynx plan to be there. We will be bringing our own signs.....
Sooooo...count us in! And if you don't mind, I am a member of another forum and I would love to invite some of those folks to this.

Kristinn said he'd be offline for a few days. I certainly don't speak for him but I have a hunch that any troop supporting group is welcome. The more the merrier and the greater the chances the mainstream media might actually cover the rally.
we want EVERY patriotic group to come to the rally & ENJOY celebrating our HEROES!
