The D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com invites all those who support our troops and their mission fighting the war on terrorists in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere at home and abroad to join us in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, September 23, 2006, from noon to 3 p.m. on the grounds of the Washington Monument at 17th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW.
With the media, liberal politicians and leftist-led so-called antiwar protesters doing everything they can to bring about America's defeat, it is imperative that those of us who love this country do everything in our power to ensure America's victory and her survival as a free republic.
Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff was in Iraq last week trying to assure the troops that they still have the support of the American people. The troops are aware of what happened during Vietnam and they are concerned the country will do the same to them. All they see in the news overseas is antiwar protests because our side doesn't turn out in sufficient numbers when when pro-mission rallies are held.
We are hoping to change this for once by giving folks five weeks notice to plan accordingly. Everyone has their excuses as to why they can't take a day off from their busy lives to send a public message of support for our troops and their mission. Well, after five years of hearing those excuses and with the fate of the nation in the balance, I think it's time to bag the excuses and take a day off and devote it coming to Washington to send a message of support not just to the troops, but to their Commander-in-Chief, the nation and the world.
Also, by turning out you will send a strong message to our enemies abroad and at home that we have not lost our will and that we will not be defeated in Iraq, Afghanistan or anywhere.
Please make the commitment to attend and help spread the word about the rally to your families, friends and co-workers.
As we have done in the past with these rallies, the members of the D.C. Chapter will be digging in to their own pockets to put the rally on, but we could use help. If you'd like to contribute, please click here. We'd like to be able to promote the rally with 10 second radio ads in the D.C. area to help get the word out beyond the Internet. We will also be reaching out to other groups like we did with last September's rally.
I want to thank all our FRiends who have joined and helped us in the past. We hope you'll be able to join us again next month.
Details as to speakers and other events associated with the rally will be announced over the coming weeks.
May I be added to the DC ping list even at my vast distance? I'm going to try very, very hard to be there for this rally and to pass the word as well.
Any recommendations for which outlying (outlaying??)metro stations in MD are best to park at/ride in on for those in PA/NJ/NY if they come that way? (I'll probably try to go to the Friday night WRAMC freep as well and stay over for this rally.) The info is for use in persuading others who don't want to drive all the way in.
I recommend the Greenbelt station. It is North of the Beltway, just off of Route #1.
It is the Northernmost subway station.
There may be a better station. This is probably the best one if you are coming down 95.
This thread needs a bump!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I plan to attend also, hope for there to be a very large crowd.
It is imperative that our men and woment in uniform KNOW that we support them!
All they see in the news overseas is antiwar protests because our side doesn't turn out in sufficient numbers when when pro-mission rallies are held.
It's not just overseas.
Thanks for getting this up so quick.
YES please - I plan to attend the Sept 23 rally and hope to bring friends. Thanks BillF - and to all of you regular DC Freepers - for working so hard to keep people in the loop.
Penciled in. Last year was just wonderful, riding with "Doc's posse". Tremendous speakers, awesome music, an unexpected fly-over by Pres. Bush, and I stole a kiss on the cheek from JimRob!
Good for you Nan. That is wounderful.
I will try and make it.
I'm used to snow and freezing cold weather. Won't know how to act.
I'll be there.
donation incoming, I'll try to make it Sept 23. Hope to see you all again!

Thank you.
I know that there are people who believe that we shouldn't go counter protest because they feel that lends creedence to the protestors. I disagree. When you've been standing there, as I have, against the moonbats, and had a Gulf War vet come up and say that he was upset by the demonstrations going on, and then he took heart when he saw you standing there with a pro-troop, pro-mission sign...well, you just know you're doing the right thing. I challenge anyone who disagrees with counterprotesting to go do it once. I doubt they would keep their same opinion -- if indeed it's an honest opinion and not just an excuse to not do anything.
Ping - reserve the date and ping your lists.
We need lots of "boots on the corner" for this one for the MSM to give us coverage.
Lets show our troops we care.
