In early May of this year, our dear friend Flyer was diagnosed with a brain tumor and lung cancer. The doc’s told him the tumor was not curable, but treatable. His understanding of the lung cancer was that it was minor (if there is such a thing).
Several weeks ago Flyer finished radiation. Tuesday was his first chemo treatment. Friday he was feeling bad, but did not want to go to the hospital. His brother finally called an ambulance Saturday morning to take him to the ER.
A few minutes ago Eaker, myself and Roger (Flyer’s brother) returned from the hospital. The news is not good.
The lung cancer has spread rapidly. Flyer only has use of one lung. He is on constant oxygen, and his breathing is still labored. Because of the cancer and tumor his immune system cannot keep up, now he has a major infection in his left leg. They are giving him antibiotics thru an IV
The doctors told the three of us that Flyer does not want any heroic measured taken. Right now his care instructions are to keep him hydrated and comfortable.
For those wondering why a prayer thread was not started earlier, it is because Flyer did not want one ~ several friends asked if they could start one, and he said ‘no there are others who need prayers more that I’.
It truly breaks my heart to type the following words, our good friend and a wonderful man will soon die. I am asking you to please pray for Flyer’s comfort.
Jim, I with heavy heart add your name to my growing list of my cancer stricken friends that I pray for and I also pray that you do not suffer any more than the Lord will allow.

Remember him, O Lord, in mercy; endue his soul with patience; comfort him with a sense of thy goodness; lift up thy countenance upon him, and give him peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your post brought tears to my eyes -- I was just thinking I knew who would be waiting for him when he gets there.
I do not bring good news this morning.
The infection in Flyer's leg is much worse, and his white blood cell count is very low. His blood pressure is so low they are having a very hard time getting a reading.
The decision has been made to take Flyer off of the antibiotics, and only keep him hydrated and comfortable.
The doctor is talking a matter of hours, not days or weeks before Flyer passes away.
He is not in any pain right now.
I sent your love and hugs ~ it made him smile.
I am now headed back up to the hospital.

Save us some space at the Father's Home, Flyer. Godspeed...you will be flying with the Father and the Son.
Tell Flyer that Lazamataz will be, someday, there with him to make him laugh.

Sad news but thanks for keeping us posted. He'll be in our thoughts and prayers.
