Just saw on Fox that the IDF is monitoring unusual activity on Syrian border in the Golan Heights...tanks there, they are removing land mines at the border...not up on their website yet
I don't think the Muzzies in Iran care. They are going to look at it as a holy war and probably will hide behind women and children.
Israel will not nuke Iran in retaliation. If so, they could have done something in 91 when Saddam was launching missiles at Israel. There would be too much pressure on Israel to do nothing if they shoot down a missile.
Desert Storm was a totally different scenario under totally different circumstances. If they had retaliated then, it may or may not have broken the coalition. They reluctantly stood down, but made it clear that if U.S. forces could not do something about the missiles, or if a SCUD contained WMDs, all bets were off.
Considering Sadaam's WMD went into Syria, I wouldn't be so sure.
It does, I suspect Damascus gets nuked and probably in the near future. But I'm going to support Israel whether they choose to fight or choose a cease fire. I'm certainly not going to hope for a nuke war.
Yeah, it is strange about Syria -- if they really are attacking. I suspect they're doing whatever it is they're doing (attack or feint?) at the behest of Iran. I just wonder what the real move is going to be...
...and all according to plan... ;-)
Exactly! I just hope the leaders in Israel have the stomach to stay the course.
See ya in the air!
Ooooooooo! All the parties must be frozen, paralyzed, utterly trembling with isatiable fear.
Some of us are of age where I job will be to keep the wolves away from the door - and that means dry powder and etc,.
I think Iran and Syria have gotten the impression from the way israel has handled their ,ilitary operations in lebanon that they are too weak and therefore easy pickings for an invasion force from Syria. Thanks to Olmert
I just got a scary thought when I mixed your idea with online hunting.
Internet warfare in 20 years?
Syria has collected WMDs for along time. They are known to have VX gas,and Sarin.Just haven't had the capability of putting the warheads on missiles for delivery. They have been getting help from NK and CHina.WHo knows. They may be able to now, which is a very scary thought
However, there have been some losses of the Merkava tanks due to some more advanced anti-armor man packed antiarmor munitions. What if they launch a combined arms offensive with those antiarmor rockets as the vanguard and put themselves into hidden covering "over watch" positions. They could shoot-n-scoot before effective counterbattery or air assets could target their positions. Might that not even the odds a bit? STILL...why only in battalion strength? What possibly could the initial objectives be?
With all given respect - but Charles Martel was a Frenchman although he was born in Belgium:

A well-meant suggestion: I would change my tagline immediately if I would be in your shoes.
Plus they've got all of Saddam's stuff from before the war. Surely there are some delivery systems among that stockpile.
Remember, these anti tank units are unlikely to be armored. And to be close enough to provide overwatch for a quickly advancing armor means they would need to be near the front. Secondly, Israel has the high ground, limiting any overwatching positions. Hezbollah has been very successful using them in a defensive capability, I don't think that success translates to a significant offensive capability against hull deflade Merkava tanks.
Hard to figure what they are thinking with the limited intelligence available. If they drank the Hezbollah koolaid and think that the IDF can be defeated conventionally, they'd better think twice.
If I were sitting at the table I would go ALL IN!
I think Syria is bluffing, since I know they don't have a pair!
Pun intended.
Good point. Using the doctrine of OCOKA the Israelis will become the defenders with prepared, alternate and supplemental fighting positions. The tanks will have (as you said) the hull down defilade, but the ability to quickly move out and engage. Israel also has significant air assets and I'm betting a goodly supply of UAVs with which to prep the LD/LC with good observation and pre-plotted artillery trp's. Criminey, it'd be a one sided massacre. The only thing Syria could hope for would be to deliberately sacrifice the troops in such a manner in order to stir up the world opinion against Israeli "barbarism." What do you think?
