Israel needs to annex that land if it doesn't want to go through this all over again. If the UN and the Lebanese Army were adequate guarantors of the peace, then we wouldn't be in the current mess. There needs to be a real, permanent price to pay, and the lives of some their enemies don't count since they don't value life.

Intelligent analysis, jveritas. But we've come to expect that from you. No pressure, though. :)

I'm glad I bumped into you tonight. Hubby and I were just talking about Israel seemingly agreeing to the UN Resolution and ceasefire, etc. Many are furious with the decision, but I think they are reacting negatively far too soon. I had a WILD thought that probably belongs in the scrap-pile, or read while wearing a tin foil hat, but you're a good one to bounce it off of.

Lots of folks think that Israel, and hence, the U.S., have basically given Hezbollah/terrorists a win. But what IF, the reason that Israel has decided to sign off on this UN Resolution is that they are aware of possible terrorist (Iran?) strikes coming soon and need to get their military men and women, and equipment, back into Israel in preparation for........Aug. 22 or some such date? Ok, I don't wear tinfoil, but I'm a mystery and conspiracy buff.

There's been far too many things going, and possibly connected. Is it a wild stretch of the imagination to say that perhaps Israel has been warned of an impending, possible attack?

I cannot believe the Hezzies will completely disarm. They fight to the death, period. Israel as well as the U.S. holds all the face cards. France, Iran, Syria, and the Hezbolas can't even bluff and we all know it. Israel is doing just what the Russians did when they took over the eastern block countries, they starved them. Israel will bring the Frances and the U.N.'s to its knees if this goes any longer. Just my opinion.

AFP via translation -

The Israeli operation in southern Lebanon could last of the weeks

JERUSALEM - the terrestrial operation of great scale launched by the Israeli army Saturday in southern Lebanon could "last of the weeks" and "go beyond the Litani river", indicated the General Alon Friedman, chief of the operations to the northern military area.

"It is an operation by stages, the first stage will last a few days so that we can control the ground, the second stage consisting in cleaning the ground will last a few additional days, even several weeks", affirmed the General with the public radio.

This military person in charge also affirmed that "if that proves to be necessary we will go beyond the Litani river", more in north in Lebanon.

Although a UN Resolution has been approved, it will take time to impose it... especially bringing troops in the designated area as specified in the resolution... Israel will take advantage of that time to kick some ass and make sure it will take time for Hesbs to re-arm themselves or cripple them permanently!

Hesbolla: "Stop shooting us... there's already an approved resolution from the U.N.". Never heard about it?

IDF: "It's too noisy... bomb blasts everywhere... fire at will!"

IDF bombed the fat lady...

The Hezbozos can pretend the UN resolution means they won't get pounded into sand, and pretend is all they will do.

It's just a shame that they're not going to clear the Bekaa Valley as part of this effort.

I give up trying to figure this out...

The question that rattles around in my mind is this - Okay, despite the ups and downs of the Israeli war efforts; it ALL comes down to the enemy. If the Hezz'ites, Syrians, or Iranians make too large of a 'Boom' then it will completly null and void any 'peace' talks. So it's more of a question if the enemy has enough patience to allow this deal to create a sense of defeat for Israel or if their own blood thirst gets the better of them and they wrecklessly launch an attack on Tel Aliv, etc - that would prompt a large scale retaliation than any PM, including Olmert, would have to sign off on.

It would be akin to seeing how long North Koreans could avoid violations of a ceasefire.

Or, simply put, placing a bowl of fresh hamburger before a starved doberman pinscher, and seeing how long he would go, unchained, without diving in and eating it.

Islamist fascists, as "BLOOD THIRSTY" as they are, won't last long without blood and of course they will violate the terms, wreaing their own destruction in return.

Islam is like a spider. It constantly spreads and develops its web and then, all of a sudden, it attacks its dormant victims.

Thanks God, Israel is not sleeping and their eyes are open wide. Europe is almost flooded by Muslims and it's only a question of time they will prevail.

I recommend an interview with Mrs. Fallachi, but as I can see people on FR are aware of the threat that Islam poses to our Western World, contrary to many Europeans even some of my closest friends.

Read it, she just hit the nail on the head.

Why do you put so much emphasis on what Israel will be "allowed" to do?

Let's finish your sentences.....

If that is considered "defensive" (which I doubt but some on this board seem to assume), then Israel will have a good deal of time to root out Hizbullah positions. ...before the Israeli public opinion and or Olmert's cabinet decides it is time to pull out.

If (and I suspect this is the case) it is not considered "defensive" to attack/root out Hizbullah positions south of the litani, then Israel only has 24 hours to apply all of this newfound man-power (which should have been applied from the very beginning)...before what? ...before the "international community" DEMANDS immediate action in the most forceful terms?

I wonder if all that 'newfound manpower' being there all along would really have done more harm than good, seeing as how the Reuters photogs would have attacked them by hitting the IDF the only place they can be hurt....Israeli public opinion.
