A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.

This threat may have been foiled, or hopefully foiled, but I can understand the threat level being raised because they have to be cautious and assume there are more plans.

Hope they teach the screening dogs how to smell this stuff. It would be a pain not to be able to carry toiletries, etc. with on a cross oceanic flight.

It is NOT a stupid question. There are 3-4 different chemical compounds, one or two of which are innocuous on their own, that may be combined to create a horrible situation. It is all in the ratios, temperatures, and technique of recombination. Or so they say. Pressure and altitude may be variables that these d!psh!ts did not calculate, but I would not bet my life on it.

I thought hand bags for men was the in thing? Heck, I use a fanny pack religiously, wouldn't be caught dead with a hand bag tho.
But then much longer waits at the baggage claim and of course more lost luggage.
