A major terrorist plot to blow up planes in mid-flight has been disrupted by police, Scotland Yard says.
It is thought the plan was to detonate explosive devices smuggled on board aircraft in hand luggage.
During the night, police arrested a number of people in London after a counter-terrorist operation they said had lasted several months.
Police believe the attacks would have been particularly targeted at flights from the UK to the US.
The Department for Transport said security at all UK airports has been increased.
Passengers on all flights will not be allowed to take any hand luggage on to any flights in the UK.
Only the barest essentials - including passports and wallets - will be allowed to be carried on board in transparent plastic bags.
Good thing the New York Times didn't find out about the investigation.
Yep.
Thank you for pointing to that article.
Just woke up to this news - it's incredible. Thank God they stopped it.
Plaque I saw in a flea market:
"If I'd known how much fun my grandchildren
would be, I would have had them first."
Well, I don't know for sure that all the suspects have been arrested.
The drumbeat for Rudy is music to the Dems ears.
What a thing to wake up to. Thank goodness this was uncovered!
Yes...I am very lucky. Many of my friends' grandchildren are half-way across the country, or even overseas. I am blessed to have them here.
My family and I just flew back from the UK four days ago. Unfortunately, it seems that we are going to have to have a major event actually happen, rather than just getting thwarted, before people will again awaken to the threat.
America is slumbering again, as is evidenced by the fact that the editor of the NYT is not already in court.
Yep.
Oh crud. It sonded like they found them all, I thought.
What was the liquid?

If there are other attacks planned then the other cells will be speeding things up before they're busted. Hope our people are working fast.

Did I also hear each plane was going to have 3 different explosives?
