I'm listening to Dennis Prager. Has anyone else been listening?
Earlier, he had Michael Medved on as a guest. They began by discussing the shootings in Seattle, where Medved lives. Then they shifted to Mel Gibson's anti-Semitic statements. Medved left, but Prager is continuing to discuss the issue.
Their comments have been nuanced and devoid of hysteria.
I imagine that Micheal will discuss this on his show today.
Also, Dennis said he would appear on Larry King's show to discuss a number of issues.
As I'm sure someone mentioned to him too. So it's the race/religion thing that has everyone all worked up?
Why not the real crime of driving under the influence?
His opinions about race and religion are his and he has a right to them, whether anyone agrees with him or not. I personally don't believe that that's how he feels. And I also think that what he said was stupid ugly, but I also know how alchohol treats people and alchoholics worse than the average person drinking too much.
Now if he'd have jumped out of his car yelling explatives toward a different race/religion(ie the religion of peace) you'd all be cheering him on.
However, not being a phyciatrist, I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment on the sincerity of what a person says when fhit saced.
I remember when my brother came home one night drunk and told my dad he was golfing at Augusta. Obviously an alcohol induced statement since he didn't play nor did anyone else in the family.
Hillary, OTOH, loves those who hate Israel. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to assess the vast difference between Mel and Hillary.
Alia, good points:
1. Gibson's behavior was outrageous and inexcusable.
2. People who think Gibson should be investigated for a hate crime, and kicked out of Hollywood, and who are now suddenly kissing Abe Foxman's ass, are hysterical fools.
More on Mel: Apparently he was stopped twice before for speeding and let go. On one of those occasions, the officer suspected him of drinking.
It sounds like he has an attitude problem.
30% of the people where you grew up said "Jews are responsible for all the world wars" when they were drunk? Where'd you grow up - Iran?
Larry Eldedr devoted most of his show to it. Very down on Mel. Let's face it, it was stupid stuff to say ... especially during the current Lebanon campaign.
I heard Larry. He was excellent.
Mel is a jerk for making anti-Semitic comments. But he's a much bigger jerk for driving drunk.
The bigger jerks were those people Larry cited who made anti-Semitic remarks while sober.
That's getting hard as hell to find around here.
Jeez, the world is on the verge and Mel Gibson's screw up is at the top of the news cycle. What does that tell you?
I answered his question. So did several others. There really are people here who prefer actual answers to slogans.
I really hope so. This place seems to be devoid of that recently.
No doubt, there's a double standard.
I just decided I need to pick my fights better. Too may knuckleheads on FR to take them all on. :-)
Way too many, and more have made their presence known since you've been away. :(
I agree.
Of course....It's an election year.
yeah, but we all have a darkside that tries to have it's way with us in our minds. The alcohol helps to give it a voice. I don't think that was Mel's belief speaking at all. Sometimes we can say things in a hateful rage and later be horrified by what hell came through us even without alcohol; obviously.
