Posted on 07/27/2006 5:14:37 PM PDT by EveningStar

President Bush addressed the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People -- after five years of invitations -- and blew it. He pandered, he condescended, all to show blacks that, yes, the president feels your pain...

Being President means sometimes having to play politics. So Bush is just doing what he has to do.

By speaking before this group Bush showed he is a bigger man than some of the racists in the NAACP. A majority of American blacks are conservative Christians waiting for a strong black leader to come along who is not a crook, a race baiter, or a Muslim.

What did they expect? Don't they realize that if something happened to the Prez and VPrez that Condi would be it?!?
Condi 08! Oh, and I'm white, by the way.

No it is not. And neither are the black votes for conservatives. Bush never should have gone.

Why so harsh toward Larry Elder? I agree with Elder and thought exactly that when I saw a couple of brief clips from the speech the other day - Pres. Bush conceded far too much to these racist charlatan hucksters such as Julian Bond, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson. Pres. Bush should never have placed such blame on the Republican Party - he should have been polite but firm in asserting that the Republicans have a difference and BETTER vision for America that raises prospects for everyone who will make a bit of an effort. Sure, be cordial to any audience, but don't accept the premises of NAACP leaders that THEY have the moral high ground (they did 40 years ago, but not now, not after 40 years of pandering to many of the worst idiots and bad ideas in American life).

Larry Elder - great stuff:

Bush could have grabbed the NAACP -- and indeed, the country -- by its lapels, and said:

"Ladies and gentlemen, good news. While racism can never be purged from the hearts of all people, it no longer represents a force potent enough to hold back anyone in America who works hard, invests in education and avoids making poor moral choices. Because of the hard work of your organization and countless men and women of all races, America has come a long way. Despite America's flaws, we can now say that we have the fairest, most free, more upwardly mobile and more open society in all of human history. We have black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Black people occupy positions in government at the very highest levels. The black middle class grows and thrives. It is an insult to hard-working black men and women to suggest that, but for race-based preferences, they never would have made it.

"The real problem facing this country is a growing sense of entitlement -- of you owe me, blaming slights of the past on those living in the present. Well, all a state can be, is just in its (SET ITAL) own (END ITAL) time. As Bill Cosby once said, America has done its part. Now we must do our part."

Now that would show he "cares."

I see the Bush apologists wasted no time to scold Elder for his correct criticism of the President on this.

Of course, he can't travel a couple of blocks to address the March for Life every year. He makes that cheesy phone call.

Bush doesn't do "marches." Nor did Reagan.

Yet you gripe that Bush, the most pro-life president this country has ever had, doesn't trot out to give you a photo op.
