INDIANAPOLIS -- A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured when a floor-mounted mirror fell on him at an Indianapolis Wal-Mart.

Police said Christopher Antonio was apparently playing near the 5-foot-tall mirror in the children's section of the store Saturday evening when it fell at the store in the 3200 block of 86th Street.

The boy was with his 5-year-old sister and his mother. The mother told police she was about 5 feet away from her son when she heard a loud crash.

Police said it took two people to pull the mirror off the boy.

I was a little one in the 50's. You behaved back then. My Mom used to try on clothes and we obediently sat on the bench outside the dressing room.

WHAT! Your mother took her eyes off of you in a store!

There was a time when kids stayed by their parents and were quiet in stores. It was called obedience. I remember that time.

Ahhh, the Good Old Days. I remember them well.

I don't know how religious you are, if at all. My kids are 8 and 9 (almost 10) - If they make it alive out of college, it will be due to the Grace of God.

I don't view parenting as architecture - you don't "mold" a child as an expression of your own will. It's more like agriculture - you till the soil and provide water and keep the weeds away - but in the end it (the plant and the child) is going to grow where it's going to grow in its own fashion. I know I'm screwing up the analogy, but hopefully you get the idea.

Hubby made the boys keep their hands in their pockets as we shopped. LOL

And they never did wander off.

MHO: Who is at fault is irrelevant Wal Mart will look at the potential bad publicity and just settle out of court.

If the mirror was not properly secured, it is Wal-Mart's fault period.

If frogs had wings, they wouldn't be thumping their butts on the ground either. Period.

LOL!!!

Can you tell the difference between a child playing near a mirror and a parent not watching to someone driving through a tunnel?

5 feet away is a whole 58 inches

Where I come from, 12 x 5 is 60.

We've now crossed the threshold into "FLAME WAR". Oh well - it was an interesting conversation while it lasted.

Nah! Just chuckle.

Freak accidents happen. Take for instance that poor lady driving through that tunnel a week or two ago. If only someone had been watching her perhaps nothing would have fallen on her either.

You can stop being an ass anytime you're ready there Linn.

you knowingly disobeyed him (at 5 I bet you picked your moment to do it ;)..

I was a handful. As this child probably was.

What is that saying "But for the Grace of God..there go I"?

If you claim you never took your eyes off of one of your kids long enough for something bad to them to have happened you're a damn liar..

My children stayed with me in stores. WHY is that so hard to comprehend? Do you KNOW any obedient children?

WHAT! Your mother took her eyes off of you in a store!

We were taught obedience. We sat quietly with our hands in our laps. Compare that to what you're reading today.

So what? Bad stuff can happen anywhere and there is no parent who can prevent it 100% of the time, not even you.

LOL you're not even a parent! how could you possible know how physically impossible to see a kid every second of every day, especially when you're also watching another kid!

That's Cindy Sheehan "logic" there . . . "unless George Bush killed your son, you cannot answer me."

I don't have kids, but I watch my nieces, and I know that a) it is challenging to keep one set of eyes on more than one child, and b) that doesn't mean you don't have to.

>>Some things are obvious. Or used to be.

Do you have childrent?

If so, How old are they now?

How many do you have?

(There are never enough seats.)
(The kids won't ride in them after their siblings get to walk.)

5 feet; the mom was within visual range of the child. That's doing pretty good from what I have seen in Wal Mart.
