Just saw on CNN that 23 tons of explosives were dropped on a Hezbollah bunker. Top Hezbollah officials are believed to have been inside.

Jerry has a point, of course ... and it's certainly good advice.

But I'll see your Jerry Pournelle, and raise you a Jeff Cooper:

1) All F-16s are always loaded.
2) Never let your pipper cover anything you're not willing to annihilate.
3) Keep your finger off the button, until your HUD is on the target
4) Know what your target is, and what lies within blast radius of it.

Western militaries have been doing a good job of discrimination in targeting ... it never hurts to encourage them to keep up the good work.

I am sure that every bunker or whatever has a room or so which is labeled "mosque." That way it can always be claimed as a religious site when, in fact, almost all their religious sites are breeding grounds for terrorism.

There's a whole 'nother thread, on whether or not that's a good thing, in the long run.

In 1945, the Germans and Japanese dang sure knew they'd been *BEATEN*, and they knew it by personal experience, not just from news reports. Many would say that that WWI Germans didn't know it, other than by news reports and a few shortages, and that this helped lead to WWII. In 2003, many Iraqis didn't know it. And we continue to pay a price for that.

I'm not saying target discrimination is bad - but I am saying it's worth looking at the issue, and the results.
