Strike Iran? How?

Horowitz suggests that Israel's best option is to strike Iran now. I agree. With Iran well on its way to becoming a nuclear power, Israel will never be stronger in relation to Iran than it is today.

A thoughtful essay.

The solution is to destroy the Syrian military and wait for the Iranians to come close enough to be bloodied.

Just think. One of the wealthiest most powerfull nations with a population of people that produced scientists, writers and musicians is now on the brink of war with main allies of North Korea and Syria. The Shah of Iran must be turning in his grave.

The Shah of Iran must be turning in his grave.

---------------------------

Do you mean the same Shah who opened the door to the mullahs by repressing his people to the point of revolution?

The only blog I see answering in the affirmative is this one, but I don't feel it is very realistic.

And how is Iran going to move close enough to be bloodied?

"It's 900 kilometers between the nearest points of Israel and Iran"

For non-metric people like myself, I am coming up with approximately 560 miles, if my math is right. That is the distance to just reach their border. Total of 1,500 miles round trip would probably get them inside and back.

Anyone know if a fighter jet can travel this far without refueling?

That the Shah was an authoritarian who abused his people is not subject to question. However, the Shah was a mere boyscout compared to the totalitarians of the "Coucil of Guardians" that have put the Iranian people in a political straightjacket. You wanted the Shah out and you got somethinng infinitely worse.

Huh? Like the bulk of their military is going to move into Syria?

The only blog I see answering in the affirmative is this one, but I don't feel it is very realistic.

Iraq declares war on Iran and allows Israel to use Basra as a staging area for air strikes? Yeah, I would agree that is not realistic!

There is really only one way that we could viably attack Iran: with the a-bomb.

My guess that unless we (the US) agree to provide in-air refueling, the only way Israel strikes Iran is by loading a bunch of Jericos with conventional explosives. That would make for a few really scary minutes as people watch the threat radars though.

Then they had better get their head out of their tuckus. They almost lost a navy frigate by underestimating their opposition. No way that ship would have been hit had the commander been on the look out for a possible Hezbollah attack.

That assumes, of course that the Israelis don't have a missile that they can use to deliver the Nukes they also don't have.

I'm betting that the Israeli missiles don't say made in North Korea on the tail.

No Moonman, but many long range bombers can. I don't believe Israel has any of those though.

I''m not IRanian, but there have been many proud Iranian FRs on this forum who disagree strongly with you, so you'll have to ask them that question.

I do know this. The Shah was a great ally, and perhaps he did rule at times with an iron fist, but we see now that this is needed in these countries...as they are prepared to enter a democratic society. We clearly know that this was his intent to make his country democratic.

If he had any faults it was that he did not execute his enemies in exhile when he had the chance.

But there is truly one villain here, and the one man in the world at fault for what all of us have been agonizing over mentally and physically for the past forty years now more or less. His name?

Well, if you ask an Iranian living free in our country who longs for the glory days of his country, "if you had one bullet in 1976, would you use it on the Ayatollah or Jimmy Carter?" The answer should not surprise any of us.

May we pray that the USA never again elects such a man, or woman, like Jimmy CArter.
