Iran denies shipping missiles to Hizbullah
Sunday , 16 July 2006
Iran on Sunday denied Israeli claims that it had troops in Lebanon and that it helped Hizbullah to attack an Israeli warship, saying the guerrilla group could fend for itself without outside help.
"There are no (Iranian) guards there. Shipment of (Iranian) missiles to Hizbullah is also not correct," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters Sunday.
Israel said Saturday that 100 Iranian troops from the elite Revolutionary Guards were in Lebanon, and that they helped Hizbullah fire a sophisticated radar-guided missile at an Israeli warship blockading the Lebanese coast late Friday.
Initially, it was believed that an unmanned drone laden with explosives had hit the Israeli warship, but it later became clear that Hizbullah had used what Israel described as an Iranian-made, radar-guided C-802 missile.

live artillery fire from israel on CNN now.
Thanks for the link & synopsis- I haven't looked at Tigerhawk recently, I'll go over there.
John Vause of CNN is on with Wolf Blitzer in northern Israel. There is a lot of shelling going on. Wolf is worried that John's hearing will be impaired. (That would be the last of my worries.)
No way!?!
Wow. I just looked out my window and saw a pig fly by...
You didn't mention Israel's 72 hour ultimatum to Syria. We're more than halfway through that period right now.
Watching it! Cool!
The reporter in Lebanon for Fox...said that the speech by Nassaralla (sp) just finished..but, he reassured his "audience" that Hez has plenty of weapons to take care of this.
Watching...
that reporter doesn't seem to have a vest or any protection on
but you know how the Dems play it. On one hand, they say "hezbollah must be stopped", then they turn around and say "they don't support israeli incursions into civilian areas of southern lebanon". well, that's where hezbollah is located, so its impossible to acheive both goals.
Unless that was part of Israel and the USA's masterplan.
Syria and Iran signed a mutual defense treaty within the last two months.
What can Syria offer Iran? It would appear that Syria is primarily a strategic location for Iran to utilize at Syria's expense.
Agreed, but this is Wolf Blitzer we're talking about here. Priorities are definitely skewed with him....
Agreed .. but she did comment and said this was a good opportunity to send Bush41 and Clinton over their to work something out.
I, for one, think Bush41 and his pal Clinton have had entirely too much face time on TV.
I don't wish them to enter the Carter mode of ex-presidents but those two are NOT the solution to all the world's problems.
A strong voice, think Bush43 here, is what the terrorists need to hear, not pablum from former Presidents.
Agreed 100%, Chuck.
In a presentation broadcast live this afternoon from Haifa, Defense Minister Amir Peretz declared that Israel would not honor human shields in Lebanon.
Peretz said while he was proud that in Gaza that a soldier told him that he did not fire at a terrorist armed with a launcher because the terrorist was holding the hand of child that the same does not apply in Lebanon where rockets are being stored in civilian locations.
Peretz warned that the IDF would target and destroy rockets wherever they are stored - including in homes and other civilian locations.
I thought that Israel had denied any such ultimatum.
