Gingrich says it's World War III
Seattle Times ^ | July 15, 2006 | David Postman

Posted on 07/15/2006 8:32:36 PM PDT by West Coast Conservative

Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich says America is in World War III and President Bush should say so. In an interview in Bellevue this morning Gingrich said Bush should call a joint session of Congress the first week of September and talk about global military conflicts in much starker terms than have been heard from the president.

"We need to have the militancy that says 'We're not going to lose a city,' " Gingrich said. He talks about the need to recognize World War III as important for military strategy and political strategy.

Gingrich said he is "very worried" about Republican's facing fall elections and says the party must have the "nerve" to nationalize the elections and make the 2006 campaigns about a liberal Democratic agenda rather than about President Bush's record.

Gingrich says that as of now Republicans "are sailing into the wind" in congressional campaigns. He said that's in part because of the Iraq war, adding, "Iraq is hard and painful and we do not explain it very well."

But some of it is due to Republicans' congressional agenda. He said House and Senate Republicans "forgot the core principle" of the party and embraced Congressional pork. "Some of the guys," he said, have come down with a case of "incumbentitis."

Gingrich said in the coming days he plans to speak out publicly, and to the Administration, about the need to recognize that America is in World War III.

He lists wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, this week's bomb attacks in India, North Korean nuclear threats, terrorist arrests and investigations in Florida, Canada and Britain, and violence in Israel and Lebanon as evidence of World War III. He said Bush needs to deliver a speech to Congress and "connect all the dots" for Americans.

What if the Arab world plays it's strongest card, which is an oil embargo?

Our friends the Russians will help us out. ;-)

That may all be true; but, I sure wouldn't want to be married to him.

OK, just don't marry him then, but if he runs please vote for him.

Newt's not perfect but I don't see anyone out there who is, and the people being talked up by the MSM as the frontrunners now (Rudy and McCain) are truly scary. There are very few possible Democrat nominees who are any more liberal than Giuliani, and McCain is just plain nuts.

And, this will prove to be a unique war as well. More mano-e-mano, as it were.

Gingrich has some personal flaws but he has always struck me as being extremely intelligent. I would take what he says seriosly.

A question for armchair strategists out there: What if the Arab world plays it's strongest card, which is an oil embargo? I have not seen this possibility addressed.

According to all the complainers on the left, America is the fattest hog using all the oil. If that is the case, cutting off sales to your biggest customer means losing business. Show me a criminal enterprise that willingly cut off the flow of goods to its biggest customer. No criminal is going to carry out a losing proposition.

Let's touch on the myth about Gingrich and his divorce. The story is false. The divorce had been in the works long before his wife entered the hospital, and she was not dying of cancer. She had surgery to get rid of her cancer which was successful. She is still alive today.

George Allen divorced his first wife. Here are a few negatives, admittedly cherry-picked by me. I first want to know all of the negatives about any potential candidate. The Democrats will find negatives on our nominee very quickly and publicize them much.

http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/George_Allen.htm

Supports mandatory Three Strikes sentencing laws. (Sep 2000)

Abolished parole; instituted Three Strikes laws. (Sep 2000)

Try juvenile felons as adults. (Sep 2000)

[Only negative for people with common sense and a sense of justice but very popular for most, who want to be safe above all else--especially anti-2nd-Amendment feminists.]

Opposes linking Human Rights to trade with China. (Sep 2000)

Voted YES on implementing CAFTA for Central America free-trade. (Jul 2005)

Voted YES on removing common goods from national security export rules. (Sep 2001)

Voted YES on require photo ID (not just signature) for voter registration. (Feb 2002)

Opposes absolute right to gun ownership. (Sep 2000)

Voted NO on banning lawsuits against gun manufacturers for gun violence. (Mar 2004)

[Did I say "anti-2nd-Amendment?"]

Voted NO on restricting business with entities linked to terrorism. (Jul 2005)

Voted NO on disallowing FCC approval of larger media conglomerates. (Sep 2003)

Voted YES on requiring on-budget funding for Iraq, not emergency funding. (Apr 2005)

Condemns anti-Muslim bigotry in name of anti-terrorism. (Oct 2001)

Minor mothers must live at home & identify fathers. (Sep 2000)

[Hmmm...looks like a "traditional" Catholic. No. After a quick check, we find that he's a Presbyterian.]

Senator Allen has a lot going for him (votes in favor of conservatism on most other issues), and I'm impressed. But it appears that he's been voting for the sole purpose of getting popular Republican (not always conservative) votes for a long time. I wonder what he hopes to do with a Presidency?

"Bush needs to deliver a speech to Congress and "connect all the dots" for Americans."

How can he do that while simultaneously calling islam the "religion of peace"? How does one justify attacking the people of a 'peaceful' religion? This is why he's trying to hunt down and kill only the "known" terrorists, and leaving their one billion supporters unmolested to strengthen, support and resupply their 'jihadist warriors'. See how this preposterous belief is hurting him and the WOT? He CAN'T connect the dots for the American people, his personal beliefs won't let him. But Newt is correct, we are indeed fighting in WWIII, and have been since 9/11.

The fact that Gingrich is stating it is WW-III may be news; but as usual, the Speaker is late to the party.

We have known this for the past decade; and that specific fact has been spread all over the internet for months -- if not years.

I am really biased against this weasel. And, I shall never forgive him for squandering his role as Speaker to feed his insatiable ego -- and for screwing the hired help.

What an intellectual fraud this self-serving bum is.

Agreed. I think that it may take some time for this to sink into the cranium(s) of the public, however.

Newt accomplished more than any other conservative or Republican leader in Congress in living memory, except perhaps Jesse Helms. All the rest is trivia.

Some of us have known it's World War III, and people say this (and everything else) on the Internet. So what? What leaders say matters. Newt it saying it. That he's saying it later than some of us is less important than the fact that he is about the first politician to say it.

The wars going on around the world are not at the same levels as in World Wars 1 and 2.

As of today, the USA is never going to be in a better position to take on Iran, Syria and North Korea

Insanity.

Why not add China, Russia, and Pakistan to the list?!

Again, the Cold War was not at the same level as the World Wars (though it could have turned that way, as could the current conflicts).

And here it is with member opinion. I'm stronger on defense and more against nanny state programs than that.

Member Opinion
Tom Tancredo 25.5% 659
George Allen 22.4% 577
Newt Gingrich 16.9% 435
Rudy Giuliani 11.8% 305
Jeb Bush 10.1% 261
Mike Pence 4.4% 114
Mitt Romney 3.3% 85
Sit it out 3.0% 77
John McCain 1.5% 40
Bill Frist 1.1% 28
100.0% 2,581

Newt Gingrich is more anti-feminist and pro-family than the others, as shown by the time and effort he has put into family rights. That would get my vote. And yes, there are many men who were divorced but are wholely against government family-breaking. It only takes one libertine/romantic/cavalier to perpetuate a divorce, and many pro-family men have been cheated by others.

"In WWII, we had half the population and 8M in the armed forces. "

Not on the morning of Sunday, December 7th, 1941. Comrade Rooseveltsky's Secretary of War boasted that he had "cut to the bone, then kept cutting."
