From Tourists Streaming into Syria from Lebanon, post 47:

To: cinives

You all might find this damn funny, but my sorry ass is marooned in Beirut, where I have been working for the IMF. If anybody has any helpful suggestions on how I can get out of this war zone, I would be most grateful. Right now, the road to Syria is the only way out of Lebanon for anyone, including U.S. citizens, and the Israelis are bombing that road. I am NOT happy with the Israelis right now. I understand their concerns about their kidnapped soldiers but bombing the Beirut Airport was not going to help them in any way.

You may need to go into survival mode. Water, food, ammo, commo, etc.. You probably know the drill. Good luck.

I'll send you $100, if you run around outside with a sign "FR Rules!", and you get on CNN.

I think under the circumstances, I'll give him a pass on pretty much anything he says.

Does that mean that anytime a FReeper is under stress, they should be allowed to lash out at other posters for no reason?

As stated earlier, stock up as much as you can on food and water. This will blow over in time and it will take a lot of time i suspect.
If you do not speak the language find someone that does.

If you find a good way out, you have a few snacks for your trip. If you don't find a good way out, you have food and water.

I hope you find a way out of there. It isn’t a good place for an American right now.

I am sorry, and good luck.

For a more direct answer no, it means under the circumstances, I'll give him a pass on pretty much anything he says.

YMMV

I hope you're ok and can get out because I just heard the Syrian Ambassador to the US say it's acceptable to capture anyone and hold them for a prisoner exchange.

Why doesn't he simply take a ferryboat to Turkey?

Or hire a fisherman to take him there, if the ferries have stopped?

Prayers lifted for your safety. We know of some others who are safe but seeking for a way out of the area.

I, er, "he" is prevented from doing so by Israeli gunboats that are imposing a naval blockade of the country. The IAF is blockading the air, and the IDF is blockading the landroutes.

There ain't no way out of this country for now.

Like I said, stay in touch with the State Dept, stay low yourself, and watch the behavior of the locals.
