WASHINGTON, May 31 After vowing to steer a greater share of antiterrorism money to the highest-risk communities, Department of Homeland Security officials on Wednesday announced 2006 grants that slashed money for New York and Washington 40 percent, while other cities including Omaha and Louisville, Ky., got a surge of new dollars.
Homeland security officials said the grants were a result of a more sophisticated evaluation process

FYI: Also read somewhere that the 'reducion in funding' accounts to various construction projects that have been completed, and so no part of the next year's budget.

That's arrogance and condescension for you right there. And if in the future a terrorist attack kills thousands of people in Omaha, in Houston or in Jacksonville, Florida, a lot of New Yorkers, and certainly their sainted NYT, will be saying the "hicks" brought on the attack themselves with their support for Bush, and will refuse to lift a finger to help.

I thought that the "so-called War on Terror" was just made up by Bush to justify attacking Iraq to steal their oil. There's no danger to New yorkers -- smile, be happy.

From the article, New York's request emphasized spending on recurring costs like overtime was cited as a factor in the relatively low rating the city's application received, one federal official said.

Excellent point and one that Rush also talked about today.
The NYSlimes goes berserk when the govt. actually tries to track down terrorists but oh boy--- when it's about the village called New York - the limo liberals who live there want to break the bank.

"they have basically turned federal homeland security spending - into pork projects for local governments all across the country."
Well, now, that's a reaaally big surprise now, isn't it? Just the natural course of evolution for any gov't program or agency. Probably inevitable.

It mostly the aura of arrogance that appears to radiate from California and New York, as if they were the entire country, regardless of the fact that Texas has a larger population than New York.

Well, if N.Y. is hit again they can always send people down to Arkansas to live in the 10,000 unused trailers destined for Katrina victims.
Or put them up in motel rooms where they refuse to leave.
Or give more money to the TSA.
Or FEMA.
After all this crowd has shown themselves to be very frugal.
Yeah, more money is the answer.

New Yorkers have not been as supportive of the War on Terror as they should be. It's kinda hard to justify pumping dollars into New York when they don't take it seriously. It's just an excuse for pork barrel spending to them.
To: calljack
NY may be the financial capital of the world but it also harbors the most left wing anti progressive people ever put on earth outside Moscow and Beijing during the height of communism.
New York wants more money?...tax New Yorkers and the money machines there and leave the rest of "flyover" country alone.

I understand the HLS cut out of the budgets those items for the reconstruction that has already taken place.
Don't tell me, New Yorkers are a tad greedy when it comes to the pork barrel.
Some of us remember the free trips, meals, unauthorized purchases and other benefits that this money was used for instead of real security.
