Ex-gay movement seeks equal time
Wilmington Star ^

Posted on 05/30/2006 12:54:44 PM PDT by SmoothTalker

"Over the past decade, gay-rights activists aggressively have pushed programs to support gay and lesbian students in public schools. Their success is striking:

More than 3,000 Gay-Straight Alliance clubs meet across the country. Nearly half a million students take a vow of silence one day each spring in an annual event to support gay rights. California soon might require textbooks to feature the contributions of gays and lesbians throughout history."

"Conservative Christians and Jews have teamed up with men and women who call themselves "ex-gay" to lobby -- and even sue -- for the right to tell teenagers they can "heal" themselves of unwanted same-sex attractions.

They contend that schools have an obligation to balance gay-pride themes with the message that gay and lesbian students can go straight through so-called "reparative therapy." In this view, homosexuality is not a fixed or inborn trait but a symptom of emotional distress -- a disorder that can be cured."

"Alan Chambers, a leading ex-gay activist, recalls how scared and depressed he felt when a high-school counselor advised him to deal with his attraction to other boys by accepting his homosexuality. He had no choice, she told him: He was gay. "It was very damaging," Chambers said. "I didn't want that. I hadn't chosen it.""

You don't understand - when the gays want IN - they are all for openness and tolerance. When the gays have power, all discussion not along the party line must be crushed...

Excellent website and 501C charity based on this very topic, i.e. the recovering homosexual. Please promote, pass it on and consider adding it to your donation list. I have and do for the last few years. http://www.pfox.org/

The liberal Pubic Skooh Sistum isn't interested in equality. They only want THEIR agenda to be taught. They have no intention of teaching regular education such as reading, writing, arithmetic, history, government, science. They want you to learn tolerance, condom application, how and where you can get an abortion without your parents permission, how to be a Muslim by becoming one for a week..including wearing of their cloths, reciting their prayers to Allah, and performing your own Jihad. Sex education means having sex with whom ever you want how ever you want, explaining that "condoms" will prevent you from most all sexually transmitted disease, and sex is not only fun it's necessary to be a well rounded individual even outside of marriage or with people of the same sex, or even perhaps with animals - if that's your thing.

I guess PFOX is a charity with similar goals to the one mentioned in this article, Exodus International. Support one or the other or both! But do support them ... they are out-voiced without better backing and we should encourage all to back them!!

God doesn't hate the sinner (as some wacko church in Nebraska wants to believe), but hates the sin. Help those caught up in this 'sin' to recover .. it is probably the most difficult 'life style' ailment to change.

Such is the way of the left in all things. When they're on the outside, they want equal time, free speech, tolerance, love, and peace. When they're on the inside, they demand silence, praise, affirmation, and agreement. Those who dissent must be disposed of.

An organization called Metanoia (sp) is another which is helping homosexuals leave the "gay" lifestyle and leading celebate lives or helping them change....from which they get their name.

Considering years and years of searching has yet to turn up the elusive gay gene, perhaps they are on to something. But 'experts' will continue to insist that homosexuality is 100% born trait, even though twin studies suggest only a partial correlation. The reality is that homosexual behavior has both a genetic component and an enviromental component (abuse, molestation, even peer pressure/curiousity now days). What causes it varies from person to person. So in many the therapy could be successful. But liberals don't see the problem with a permiscuous sexually deviant lifestyle that spreads deadly diseases, so they won't admit that there is anything to be cured, and will demonize anyone who suggests otherwise.

The article (note the LA Times byline) takes almost every opportunity to smear ex-gays (whose very existence is a challenge to the reigning pro-gay orthodoxy - you CAN'T change). For example, the writer makes an unqualified statement: "Mental-health professionals warn against therapy to change sexual orientation, calling it ineffective and potentially harmful to patients' self-esteem." The statement should be qualified with "Some mental-health professionals ...". Or labeling a simple statement "rhetoric" (which is a perjorative term to modern reporters who are ignorant of rhetoric -- the ability to clearly express one's case -- being one of the three pillars of classical education, the other two being grammar [fundamental knowledge] and logic).

A friend is ex-gay, long since happily married with mature, well-adjusted children... and an active outreach to others also wanting to escape that lifestyle. But the left wants us to know that such people CANNOT, and therefore do not, exist.

actually the correlation is zero at best.

The only correlation is the fact that identical twins are the same gender. Somehow for homoactivists that is enough.

The only correlation is the fact that identical twins are the same gender.

You can't really say that. Bailey and Pillard (1991) found the following

52% of identical (monozygotic) twins of homosexual men were likewise homosexual
22% of fraternal (dizygotic) twins were likewise homosexual 11% of adoptive brothers of homosexual men were likewise homosexual

Of course the study was small, but other studies show similar results. To the Gay Nazis these studies show that homosexuality is genetic and blame enviromental influences on keeping the other 48% of gay twins in the closet. But what the data really suggests is that there is some genetic influence, but it is far from a determinant factor.

He had no choice, she told him: He was gay.

Funny how libs are all about choice when the "choice" is whether a baby lives or dies, but when it comes to sodomy, you don't have any choice any longer. Interesting...

11% of adoptive brothers of homosexual men were likewise homosexual

No genes there. Not genes - environment.

Kids parrot what they are imprinted with.

a child grows up in a homosexual home, surrounded by homosexual life style and family friends - where are they to experience or learn different?

Or more appropriately, great accomplishments by those who practice beastiality. I use to feel guilty about being into animals until I found out so was the inventor of the pocket fisherman.....
