Off to the Races
Joining approximately 1200 fans, the Harris for U.S. Senate campaign ventured out to the Desoto Super Speedway recently and Katherine quickly stole the show.
Jack Smith, a track official said, "Often, when a political candidate or even one already in office shows up at a race track, they do their thing, make their short speech, shake a few hands, and leave quickly. Not so with Katherine!
After taking time to talk to seemingly everyone in the stands, she moved to the flag-stand, officially started the race with the green flag, and later discussed gas prices, illegal immigration problems, and the economy, closing with, 'We're not ever going to let those boys in Washington tell us what we're going to do, we're going to listen to Floridians and take care of you guys back home!'"
So enthralled in speaking to fans and watching the race were Katherine and her husband, Anders, that they stayed at the race until well past 10:00 p.m. Summing it up for everyone, race fan John Sarppraicone stated, "A lot of politicians don't care about the everyday folks, and you know what, the everyday folks are what make this country. [Katherine] has a very positive attitude toward people...she can do some good for our country."
Katherine dropped the green flag to start the race and watched the "Harris for U.S. Senate" car driven by Bill Davis (#15 car/appropriately named "Miss Liberty") circle the track.
"Our Girl..."
Also last week, Katherine traveled to Daytona. Not for another race, but to attend the Volusia County REC's Lincoln Day Dinner with special guest Lynn Swann, former NFL Hall of Famer for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and current Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate. Hundreds of local Republicans gathered along with some of the most influential politicians in Florida for what was an amazing night.
As Katherine settled into her seat, a plentiful vinaigrette salad with hot rolls and iced tea before her, her attention pointed to the stage as the band played old jazz tunes. Suddenly the band-leader stopped and looked out among the crowd, and called four people to the stage.
Whispered murmurs heighten as attendees speculated about what was happening, as this was not part of the official program. Suddenly, intonations of chords of the song, 'My Girl,' reverberate off the walls. The quartet called to the stage began singing the song, but inserting the word "Katherine" to the lyrics. "Katherine, my girl, talking about, my girl, Katherine, oooooo-oooooo-oh! Katherine! Katherine!" Surprise, laughter, and smiles quickly followed, as a shocked Katherine beamed, ear-to-ear. What a way to top off the night! "I was so surprised at the 'serenade' by the quartet. I think we'll have to bring them along with us on the campaign trail," Katherine said.
"This is just the beginning for what promises to be an eventful campaign where we travel the state, meet with voters, and have some fun on the trail," Katherine added. For updated campaign information, news articles, pictures and videos, please visit our website at http://www.ElectHarris.org

Great pics! Thanks very much for the ping.
Everyone who wants her to win should go to her web site and donate money. $25, $50, $75, more? It may seem obvious, but it takes tons of MONEY to run TV ads, send brochures, etc.
Yes, indeed and the same qualities she displayed in 2000.....fearless fidelity to following the FL election laws despite relententless MSM personal attacks & the Gore machine smear campaign.....That same determined conservative spirit make Katherine Harris the right choice for US Senator.
Classy lady. Go Kat Go!

Easy answer: FLORIDA - US SENATE: US Senator Bill Nelson (D) - 58%, Congresswoman Katherine Harris (R) - 25%. (Quinnipiac Univ.). This race isn't competitive anymore.
That's what gets me, she was FOLLOWING **FLORIDA** LAW. It was not party politics. It was not 'business as usual'. It had everything to do with her ethics and courage in the face of great orchestrated withering personal opposition.
What more does any conservative voter need to see?
re: Toomey -- now there's another lesson for us FL voters; we also see what happens to those precious senate votes when a true conservative (one able to withstand pressure) is opposed by other elements (let's call it the RINO party) and does NOT get in. That's a ponderous sentence, I apologize, but this is irritating stuff.
Also note only 37% of GOP primary voters support her (as the only clear MAJOR candidate, a disaster by any stretch).

That picture needs to be on a campaign poster! LOL! It's great!
lol. it took me longer to say the same thing. that rarely made point -- that she was following FL law -- irritates me so!
honestly, what would detractors have us do?

She was following the law. But she wasa under tremendous pressure and threats not to do so. But she hung tough and perservered.
And Harris WAS opposed by the Administration I recall in the recent Senate race. They WANTED Martinez in - I wonder why? (sarcasm).
And now the Bush Administration has apparently thrown her to the wolves - maybe she appears too coonservative for them.
No. I haven't I'm not a Floridian. But I like her TV message and I will send her a contribution.
I didn't foget Algore and the vicious Dems and press and how she blocked THEM from stealing an election. I sent her flowers after she was attacked by the media for following the law and hanging tough.
I can afford to send her money too, even if the President has chosen to ignore her.
Bush reminds me of the Dauphin - the French King whose Throne was saved by Joan of Arc, then DID NOTHING - NADA - when the Burgundians captured her, sold her to the English and they burned her at the stake. Bush = Dauphin
Harris = Joan of Arc, Dems = Burgundians.
One picture = 1,000 words.
How any FReeper (or anyone else for that matter) could look at that those pictures and say "Harris makes Nelson look very good in comparison. Just the truth" will remain the eternal mystery to me.
In a word, no.
"If Jeb Bush wanted to run, he should have thrown his hat in the ring and fought it out in the primary. He's not running, so leave the woman alone, will you? Whatever happened to the 11th Commandment, anyway?"
The better question to ask is why is she insisting on running a campaign that will prove a disastrous landslide loss for the party and give the 'Rats something to crow about for the next 20 years ? ANY other candidate (as long as they aren't a RINO) will get a higher percent of the vote than she will in the general. I hear the McBride gentleman is presentable, so let's get behind him, instead. This is about holding the Governorship and saving Clay Shaw now, and we need to recognize that fact.
Ha!
