Catholic actor Mel Gibson has slammed "The Da Vinci Code" book and movie for attacking the beliefs that he holds sacred, World Entertainment Network reported.

Gibson says, "What worries me is that people will take this as fact.
"I'm not angry, per se, that it refutes everything I hold sacred, the foundations of my beliefs. The Da Vinci Code is an admitted work of fiction but it cleverly weaves fact into maverick theories in a way that will appear plausible to some."
The angry star was actually the first choice of Dr. Robert Lomas (the intellectual who inspired the Robert Langdon character) to play him. Tom Hanks plays Langdon in the film
Because it's an entertaining movie? Imagine that...I watch movies for their entertainment value.

You’re the one making The Passion the central issue and it wasn’t The Patriot that specifically slandered anyone, it was Braveheart. The Patriot was more just a general slander.
Btw, the Frenchman concerned admitted it was all untrue. It’s others that are perpetuating the lie.
As I dared to post already, the wife and I saw it and it was an entertaining movie. If you liked National Treasure and/or Sahara you would probably like this as well.
No, most are wishy washy when it comes to people and their opinions.
Also isn't it the message that is conveyed in the context of the media that is of utmost importance? That is where this sophistry breaks down when posters compare "The Patriot" and "Braveheart" and the "Da Vinci Code".
The lasting memory of most folks who saw "Braveheart" was that a man was beheaded and had at that moment of impending death the presence of mind and the effrontery to remind all that he was dying for "freedom". It also caused many to ponder whether he was achieving it completely when death released him from earthly bonds.
Mel Gibson knows how to get people thinking,what a great gift he has.

I also liked Jurassic Park and never once gave a thought about evolution while watching it.

Many will think it's tres chic to see this movie and give money to the producers etal so they can make more movies of the same genre.
Many will solemnly state they want to see it so they can comment on it. As Laura Ingraham quoted someone this morning (I think it was Pat Buchanan)......."I don't have to move a sewer manhole to know what's under it".

Yeah right, they always use the lives and names of actual historical figures in "fiction" books and movies. Calling it "fiction" is how these scumbags hide behind their filthy attack on the Christian faith.

Nah, all they did was crucify Catholic priests to the doors of their Churches before the perverted King annexed them and made those churches his own.

No it isn't...it's fiction.
What it isn't, is an attack on anything.
For Mel to make a statement about the movie being bad based on the impact that it may have on those who he deems to be not as smart as himself is simply BS.
Do we now run the world based on the possible reaction by the least intelligent amongst us to everything?
It's a shame that there may be people too stupid to understand that this movie, like the Harry Potter movies, are works of fiction, but I don't want my world, the books that I read, and the movies I watch slanted to accommodate their lesser intellect.
Jurassic Park was no more proof of evolution than this movie is of anything.
You don't have to go watch this movie if you don't like the subject matter, and you certainly can have an opinion on it, but to go to the extremes that I have seen in the news...including censorship, is reminiscent of Islamic fundamentalism at his worst.
"The Fabulous Riverboat" series used historical names and facts.
So did Ivanhoe, as did the Camelot stories from Mallory.
Mark Twain did as well in his "Conneticut Yankee in King Arthur's Courts."
Is "The Red badge of Courage" not fiction because it takes place during a very real historical event?

The book is based on legends and stories that have been around for nearly two thousand years; the idea that Chrsit survived the crucifixion, married, and had children is not a new one.
